Hello! Together we are Ffion and Kiran, a vet and an engineer who are currently travelling the world. We share a love of outdoor adventures and growing vegetables together and we cycle, kayak and rock climb and are looking to share both our skills and personalities with whoever can welcome us!

Hi! I'm Kiran; I grew up in Nairobi, Kenya, and I'm an engineer with a degree in mechanical engineering and experience in the railway signalling and the world of big data engineering. I love problem solving and most of my passions and work stem from that.
I like bicycles and enjoy tinkering and fixing mine and my friends bikes, I enjoy puzzles and board games, and trying out new things such as growing different weird or wonderful vegetables; I've recently been through mushroom growing and kombucha making phases that were a lot of fun!
In the last year (ish) I've picked up the ukulele, and have been playing with different groups and even started my own when I moved house and there wasn't one near me.
I really enjoy trying new things; if there's something on a menu that I have never heard of or that sounds interesting then I have to try it!
I'm someone who is driven and energised by being around people, and I love meeting new people and hearing their stories!

Hello, I'm Ffion; A vet who grew up in Wales and I'm as happy treating cats and dogs as I am treating cows and sheep. I love rock climbing and hiking in the mountains and recently did my mountain leader training with the goal of becoming fully qualified. Growing up on a farm instilled a strong work ethic in me, and I'm happiest when I've got a job to do! We have been living back on my family farm for the last year and I love getting involved with everything going on like calving, lambing, planting, harvesting.
I enjoy cooking, especially finding new ways to create healthy, tasy meals and have been a vegetarian for many years. I like to stay fit, and have been regularly practising yoga for the last few years, as well as running with the farm dog in the mountains!
I love taking on new challenges like making my own clothes, mending fences, or raising orphan lambs and tending the polytunnel plants!

We hope you think that we would be interesting to have stay!

Kiran - Professional experience as a mechanical and a data engineer, which is handy when needing to do any calculations or understand any mechanical system that might need fixing! Other practical skills include:
- playing the piano and the ukulele
- sewing, knitting
- white water kayaking
- gardening, with an interest in bushcraft skills particularly foraging wild plants for eating

Ffion - Years of experience as both a large and small animal vet, as well as experience on the family farm with cows, sheep and agriculture. Other practical skills include:
- comfortably driving anything from quad bikes to tractors and vans
- sewing + knitting (more than Kiran!)
- hiking leader
- rock climber
- yoga

Ffion and Kiran were awesome, exactly what we needed. They are mature,competent and will work on their own initiative. Sean and I were flat out busy before Christmas working so our garden was overgrown and neglected. I just gave them a 'To Do List' and they pretty much got through everything from weeding to painting.

Their house was set up perfectly to host us and we had our own private wing in the house with a room, bathroom and access. Apart from our daily little cleanup they have helped us organizing biomass in the syntropic lines of our future food forest, as well as building platforms for our water recycling system version 2.0. Vom Workawayer () für Host (Join us to create sustainable ...)

Our two week stay with Joep and Julia was really lovely, and can probably be broken down into the following useful points:
- Joep was really quick and helpful with communication and helping us get to them.
- We arrived and moved into our home, a very cosy tent tucked away in a shaded corner of the campsite, which was really comfortable and… read more mosquito proof! There was plenty of space in the communal kitchen/social area for us to store our stuff.
- There was a great range of dried foods for us to eat, like pasta, rice, chickpeas, lentils. It was really easy to head into town to buy fruits and vegetables, either with a 40 minute walk that had an amazing view or by tuk-tuk.
- We started work at 7 with general tidying of the spaces, then went on to whatever the current project was; we did mulching to support the regeneration of the dry land using the principles of syntropic agroforestry, as well as dry stone wall building to create new platforms for the expanded water system they are currently working on. Joep is amazing with explaining how they have built the site, and also with guiding us with the work we were doing. It was fascinating learning about the different building techniques they have used, and the interesting waste management systems they have put in place such as vermiculture.
- Each day we got fed a phenomenal 3-course breakfast by Julia, with porridge, arepa, omelette, fruit and freshly bakes sourdough bread straight out of the oven, along with homemade hummus and jams! We also used the breakfast time to practise our Spanish, and talk about a range of interesting topics! We were amazed that Joep speaks 5 languages fluently, and Julia speaks 4.
- Joep took really good care of us during the time we were working, making sure that we had proper safety equipment, drank lots of water, and took regular breaks. We really enjoyed the work, and were amazed at how 3 people armed only with iron bars can move a 1-tonne rock into position to build a wall! We finished working at 12:30, at which point the rest of the day was ours.
- We generally spent our free time relaxing in the hammocks on the very quiet, peaceful and beautiful campsite, or engaging with the huge range of really interesting overlanders that stopped in the campsite. It was fun seeing the different custom vehicles that they had all built and were driving across continents! There are also a lot of very nice hikes around the area, and Barichara has a lot of nice bars and restaurants.
We would highly recommend coming to stay here, we made great friends, learned a lot, and had a very wholesome time here!
