Beschreibung
Hi there! My name is Joost, 26 years old, and for the next months I plan to go around Italy, learning and working in local farming, being out in nature, hoping to make meaningful connections with people along the way. I would love to gain experience in sustainable and biodynamic ways of farming (I enjoy the details in how things really work!), as well as preparing great and nurturing food. I also find a lot of joy in the contact with others, getting to know how others think and feel about their lives and what they do. Workaway to me is therefore also a way for cultural and personal exchange.

I love to cook, preferably vegetarian and with fresh local ingredients, bake bread, read books, play guitar and sing some songs (even though I'm a bit shy about it ;)), going out in nature like hiking mountains or water sports (I recently discovered the joy of scuba diving and being in the water). I'm social and easily connect with different types of people, but I'm also a stable/calm person. I enjoy taking time to practice yoga and meditation, to reflect and to grow.

An ideal workaway place for me would be a stay in nature, working outside and learning about the land and manual skills in harmony with nature and animals, a family setting, getting to know and connect with my host and other workaway-ers, practice my Italian (I can help with English in return), cook/eat fresh and local products, and to exchange views on what interests us. I enjoy the process of learning new skills and deep dives into something new, so during workaway I look forward to getting to work, get my hands dirty, and make myself useful during my time with you! I'm flexible and have a responsible work attitude, so if there are other things that I can help with, organizing events, walking the dog or playing/taking care of children, I'm up for it :).

Why Italy and why workaway now? I've always felt a strong connection with Italy since I was a kid. I was lucky to live in Rome for a few months studying there, after which I really fell in love with the lifestyle, food and the pace of life. I'm still a long way from being fluent in Italian, but my goal is to become comfortable talking in Italian.
Workaway is the start of taking a different path for while. After two years of working in consultancy I realized this was not what I wanted and I've since quit and set out to find a new direction that feel authentic to me. I'm confident that workaway will be a helpful experience in this!

I am mostly looking for stays of multiple weeks (4 weeks in general), and if it feels like the right thing for both of us I could stay longer. I have no dietary or allergy issues, (I do prefer a mostly vegetarian diet). Don't hesitate to reach out to me and we can also have a video call before making arrangements, to ensure we are good match!

I'm really there to improve my Italian so happy if you speak Italian as much as possible! Having had some practice in Rome and during courses I would say I'm a bit past the beginner level. So with some hand gestures we hopefully come a long way. I'm fluent in English and Dutch (native language), and happy to teach/practice English. I also speak some words in French.

Was könntest du arbeiten?
I have no explicit farming skills or experience with tending to animals, but I'm eager to learn both! Especially practices in harmony with nature and with local products. I am practicing my Italian and hope to improve it during my stay. I'm fluent in Dutch and English and would be happy to teach/practice with you. I also speak a little bit of French. I would say I am quite a good (home) cook and love to make anything from Italian classics, to healthy salads, and from making home made sour dough bread to pizza from scratch.

Most interests you will find in my description however here are a few things I love to do, would like to do during workaways, talk about or exchange:
- learning any new skill, but for workaway especially in natural farming, manual skills, animals and Italian language

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Experience life in an ...)

Wow! This place means so much for me, and has changed me in more ways than I can express. It is my first workaway experience and I feel blessed for it. The most important thing is people and the community that was so kind and inspiring when I was there. All different people but likeminded in their goal to create a beautiful place, to stay open… read more minded, explore and create. For me community living and the focus on doing it consciously (ecological, mindful, meditation) was all new, but it never felt forced on me. I would say you get invited to explore for yourself to find what fits you. And this is the best thing. When I was there I participated in one of their retreats focusing on 'who am I', exploring ourselves through the circle way and being in nature. In summertime there are many different type of events where I both joined as a participant as well as working to make them possible. In the morning there is space for meditation and yoga (I even gave my first yoga class to the group), and in the evenings there is often space to have group activities that we host ourselves. This makes it such an inspiring place, that is only going to grow in the future.

Regarding the work: when I was there I worked on maintenance jobs like oiling windows and fixing a road, gardening / harvesting (permaculture), and many weekly jobs to keep the community running (cleaning, cooking). Based on their message on workaway I thought I would cook every day but in reality it is more something we divide so that you cook maybe once or twice per week. Since I enjoyed the cooking I sometimes did more. When there were events I would help prepare for them and help to host. What I loved is that you're also invited to think about the project itself and give feedback. The open sharing of how everyone's feeling is very characteristic for this place.

It is also connected to a larger community down in the valley. For example sometimes I would work at someone's house in the valley, learning to build walls with natural materials. We also had visits in the area and at the monestary that is just 5 minutes away. From here you can make beautiful hikes in the mountains, go on a run, visit rifugio's and enjoy nature. I often made a nice walk to a local cheese farm. Within the project there is a no-meat and no-alcohol policy, which is actually very nice for maintaining the overall vision and atmosphere of the place (plus outside you are free to consume what you want).

It is a beautiful, inspiring and heart warming place in the mountains, and if you enter with an open heart I'm sure it will give you similar growth as it gave me and many others! That you Chanty, Phil, Thomas, Adam Thibaut and all other inhabitants, fellow work-awayers and friends of the project. Hope to return whenever I find my way back to the Italian mountains.
