Hi! We are Márcia and João, a 24-year-old couple from Portugal with a big love for nature, sports, and arts.

Hi! We’re Márcia and João, a 24-year-old couple from Portugal with a big love for nature, sports and arts.

I’m a freelance artist with a background in textiles, passionate about exploring the relationship between material, body, and space. My work focuses on sustainability — I mainly use recycled or discarded materials, transforming waste into meaningful pieces. I’m also fascinated by ancestral craft techniques and love working with natural materials like wood, clay, or plant-based dyes.

I have taught textiles for two years and volunteered with children, always creating space for play and artistic expression. More recently, I’ve been exploring performance through body and movement work, combining it with tools like non-violent communication, openness to failure, and playfulness.

João is an outdoor sports enthusiast with strong leadership experience. He’s guided group tours and taught rock climbing in nature, always prioritizing safety, trust, and clarity. With a background in Management and Sociology, he brings both organizational thinking and social awareness to any team or setting.

He has a calm, adventurous spirit and a natural ability to help people feel safe and confident — even outside their comfort zones. He loves sharing his passion for nature and encouraging others to push their limits while respecting the environment.

We’ve also gained practical experience helping with agricultural work, festival construction, and campervan remodeling. These hands-on projects have strengthened our teamwork skills and adaptability.

We both stay active and grounded by spending time outdoors — we go camping often and love hiking, climbing, spearfishing, dancing, and running. Nature and movement are part of how we stay balanced and present in our lives.

Right now, we’re eager to learn new skills, meet new people, and contribute to meaningful projects. We see Workaway as a beautiful way to exchange knowledge, grow through hands-on experience, and be part of something bigger than ourselves.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I have experience with simple construction and manual work, and I’m a quick learner when it comes to practical tasks. I’m also great with children—I spent a full year working at an outdoor adventure tourism company where I often led activities for kids of all ages. I also hold a Coastal Skipper License, so I’m confident and responsible around boats and the sea. I speak fluent English, Portuguese is my native language, and I can get by in Spanish too.

Was noch ...

Outside of work, we love staying active and being in nature and exploring new landscapes.
We also enjoy quiet moments like reading, cooking and arts and crafts. Chess and Catan are our favorite board games. We are always curious to learn new things, whether it’s a local tradition, a new sport, or a new way of doing something. Meeting people from different backgrounds and sharing good conversations and experiences is our goal.
