Currently in the US but I'm planning to backpack around SEA from June-August. I'm pretty flexible as I have no set plans as of now.

Hi, I'm Janelle! People usually call me Elle. I'm 22 years old from the US. I enjoy a lot of outdoor activities whether that be camping, swimming, skiing, hiking, etc. I may not be the best at them but I'm always willing to try new things and participating in activities as such brings me joy. I LOVE food, it brings me immense joy. I do partake in making them (cooking, baking, etc.) but eating is more of my expertise. I love learning about new cultures and languages. I was born in the Philippines and my family moved around often. We enjoyed moving and going to different places and that helped expose me to different cultures apart from my own. I've always been told that the best lessons lie further beyond the books and the best teachers are those who've experienced certain things and have learnt from it. I'm still growing (as that never stops) and I want to experience what this world has to offer through the perspectives of those who want to make a change and better their communities.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I'm introverted but I've always known I enjoyed working with people ever since I got my first job as a summer camp counselor at 16. It's what made me pursue my BA in Communication Disorders and in Psychology because I wanted to help people, especially kids, with whatever adversity may come their way. Supposedly, I'm in my "gap-year" but I've decided to teach in order to gain experience and apply things I learned in school to real life situations. I currently teach Social Studies (World History, US History, Economics, and Government) and Psychology to high school students in a cyber academy that caters to students that have IEP's and special accommodations and/or those students who necessarily do not do too well in a traditional school setting.

I come from a Filipino-American family that speaks English and 2 Filipino languages (Tagalog and Cebuano) fluently. So, I grew up conversing in those languages as well. I lived in a border town of US and Mexico for a couple of years of my life so I learned Spanish during my time there. I can't speak it that well though, but I can understand. I took German and Korean when I was in university, but I probably have the same understanding as a Kindergartener for those languages.

My dad runs a catering business so I like to believe I'm pretty good in the kitchen. It's probably not as good as my dad's cooking, but I'll get there someday. I also like to bake especially desserts like cookies and cheesecakes. I grew up in a household with 4 brothers so I'm pretty handy with tools and such and learn things pretty quickly. I also enjoy photography. Especially when it comes to taking pictures of things I see on outdoor treks or new cities I am in. I'm no professional, but I do have a DSLR and a film camera that I carry around.

Was noch ...

I love music!!! I go to concerts and music festivals often and I've made it an annual goal to go to at least 5 every year. So far for 2023, I'm set to see Taylor Swift, JOJI, Beyonce, and go to Coachella for its 2nd weekend (very excited to see Blackpink and Bad Bunny perform). I collect vinyl records too- old and new. I enjoy listening to them on my record player especially the old ones. I even have some that have been passed down from older relatives. I also spent my childhood playing instruments (piano, drums, saxophone, trumpet, violin, ukulele) but have not gotten back into it in a while. I still play around sometimes but not as extensive as it used to be.
