Hello everyone, I'm Ellen! I am a dedicated and empathetic volunteer with a passion for bringing more kindness and love to our world. 🫶 I have a strong work ethic and collaborate well with others. I've been volunteering since a young age, mainly focusing on helping kids and adults with special needs, but I've also been involved in various volunteering activities at places such as farms, animal shelters, food pantries, and banquet halls. Helping others brings me immense joy and purpose. Oh, and I definitely don’t mind getting my hands dirty- I love nature and gardening!
In my free time, I enjoy playing with my cats, hiking, gardening, learning foreign languages, composting, cooking, traveling, volunteering, reading, dancing, singing, and advocating for social justice. As a vegan driven by environmental and ethical concerns, I aspire to live in harmony with other creatures and contribute to the protection of Mother Earth through the support of sustainable practices.
I’m currently a community college student majoring in environmental engineering and I hope to play a role in developing sustainable technology and advancing renewable energy. I hope to design more efficient batteries and solar panels for electric public transportation to combat carbon emissions and address the threat of the climate crisis. I’m also interested in making the aviation industry more sustainable, so I might explore a career in that field. Additionally, I plan on offsetting the emissions of every flight I take (2-3 per year).
I've had a few Workaway experiences, but all were relatively short term, ~1-2 weeks.

I have studied abroad in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, for 9 months from 2022-23, attending Mandarin Chinese classes and staying with a host family. I've also traveled to Puerto Rico for a couple weeks, where I volunteered at a church and helped stray animals. Looking forward to new adventures and meaningful connections through Workaway!

I am more than willing to teach English. I am taking classes at my community college to earn my TEFL certification. I am currently learning Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, German, and some Italian as well as Croatian.

I am a college student but also work in special education. I have experience in cleaning services, working as a barista, and working at a nursing home. I have some experience teaching English as well. English is my native language, but I also speak upper intermediate Mandarin Chinese and beginner Spanish. I have lots of experience volunteering. I’ve volunteered for farms, musical theaters, animal shelters, food pantries, banquets halls, and many more places. I enjoy plant based cooking and cook for my family multiple times each week. I am an avid gardener as well and love planting herbs and tomatoes. I’m great with animals and treat them with respect and love. I have six cats of my own, but love all animals. I don’t mind doing dirty work, no problem! I can help fix and install basic things such as dressers and beds. I can lift heavy things as well because I do have plenty of experience helping friends move and lifting heavy boxes at food pantries.

I love playing board games, all different kinds! Some of my favorites include charades, Apples to Apples, Uno, Skyjo, trivia games, Pictionary, and Scrabble. I love karaoke too. I enjoy watching movies as well, my favorite genres include historical fiction, science fiction, and non fiction. I enjoy researching various topics such as climate crisis related issues and AI.
