Hello, we’re Chloe (28) and Fergus (30) We are a British couple and we're currently travelling in Tunisia. We lived in Manchester until last summer, and since September we've been travelling in the Balkans and Italy using Workaway.

Firstly we were looking for a slower lifestyle as the fast pace of an English city had become too much for us. We wanted to know more about permaculture and organic farming, and to work out how we might be able to grow our own food in the future, once we've finished travelling. It's been really interesting gaining lots of experience and knowledge in these areas and we're more certain than ever that we want to try to become self-sufficient.

We also came travelling in order to meet new people from around the world and see things from different perspectives. This cultural exchange has been the most rewarding part of our travels, and we have particularly enjoyed visiting areas where tourists don't normally go. The opportunity to experience real living culture, rather than the sanitised, commodified version that is normally available for foreign tourists, is something really unique and it's been a privilege to be able to travel in this way.

As well as gardening and agriculture, we are also very happy to undertake any other kinds of work, we love to learn new skills, and whatever we may lack in expertise, we make up for in enthusiasm and eagerness to help however we can! We’re both fit and energetic so physically demanding work is fine too.

We have also both enjoyed practicing our language skills - we both speak some Italian and it was great to have the chance to improve it while travelling in Italy. We're currently trying to learn some very basic Turkish, so we'd love to practice that and we're keen to learn as much as possible. We have both taught English in the past, so we can also help you with your English skills if you’d like.

We are both mostly vegan - Fergus does eat fish sometimes, and we're both happy to consume eggs as long as they have been produced ethically, sustainably, and locally. We're not judgemental about other people's diets and it's not a problem for us if you eat meat or dairy products, but we don't eat them.

As people, we are both very friendly, open, curious, laidback and respectful. We like yoga, reading and cooking, and we both love music, especially electronic music. During our free time, we like going for walks in nature, so we'd love the opportunity to explore some new parts of the world. Apart from that, we look forward to having lots of interesting conversations with our hosts and learning about their experiences, their areas of expertise, and the history of their countries.

We are both native English speakers, and we both have teaching experience, so we'd be happy to help you with your English :) Fergus can speak Italian very well, and he is intermediate at German. Chloe would really like to improve her Italian to a conversational level, but right now she is a beginner. Neither of us know Turkish, but we would love to learn!

Was könntest du arbeiten?

We have now been volunteering with Workaway for around five months, so we've learned a lot about gardening and agricultural work, and we've also had some experience of eco-construction, olive harvesting, and road paving.

We both enjoy cooking and I would say we are pretty competent chefs! Our cooking would be mostly vegan as that is how we eat, but don't worry, we are not judgemental about how other people eat! We are of course happy to help with any cleaning and tidying that may need doing too :)

We both have English teaching experience, as previously mentioned, and Chloe has spent the last 15 months working as a teaching assistant, so she is happy helping with children and young people and thinking of fun activities that they could do.

We both dabble in creative practices, and though we are not professionals, we are happy to help get stuck into any arty projects you may want help with. Chloe is an amateur music producer - I don't know whether that would come in handy for anyone at all, but if that would help anyone, let me know!

Mostly, our special skill is coming with lots of enthusiasm and learning quickly!
