Hi, I'm Carrie! My background is in education but I have worked the last 5 years in retail management. I love traveling, meeting new people, and exploring other cultures. I hope to find a work exchange opportunity that allows me to help others, learn a few new skills, and improve my conversational Spanish. I studied Spanish in college and have been relearning the language in recent months. I am a A2/B1 level.

While this will be my first experience with Workaway, I have traveled quite a bit in my adult years. In 2012 I traveled with a group from school to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. I would go back in a heartbeat to snorkel with turtles and sea lions! In 2015 I spent a summer studying abroad in Segovia, Spain, and even went to Pamplona for the San Fermines festival (Running with the Bulls)! In 2017 I was an au pair in Genoa, Italy for ~2 months. I lived with a wonderful family and provided childcare for their 4 year old girl and 9 year old boy. During this trip I traveled solo to Iceland, Budapest, Vienna, Prague, and various cities throughout Italy. I have learned that I love slow travel, where I can stay in one place for a few weeks or months. I want to live like a local, explore the hidden gems of a town, and appreciate each place more than at face value.

I am interested in working in the hospitality industry in my time abroad. In my past travels I have always enjoyed staying in hostels as a solo traveler. I think the inexpensive accommodations, friendly atmosphere, and opportunity to meet other tourists makes staying in hostels a phenomenal experience. I am a team player, welcoming to all, and excited to embrace a new culture and community.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Education and a minor in Spanish. In the my past jobs I have worked as a summer camp counselor, middle school science teacher, retail associate, and retail manager. I have experience working with children as an au pair and gymnastics coach.
