Hello! My name is Becca, and I'm a 34 year old illustrator. I create children's picture books mostly, with a bit of animation work too, and am constantly on the hunt for new inspiration, creative projects, friends and adventures! The things that motivate me most in life are stories, art, exploring and deep & fulfilling conversations. I believe in learning as much as you can about the world, and I really enjoy talking with people from all walks of life. I've had a Workaway account for a little while but haven't done much with it aside from a fabulous two month trip to Colombia where I worked at a school. I'm traveling for the next few months, so I'm currently looking for new experiences in Costa Rica and South East USA (late 2024).

I'm flexible with type of work I can help out with, and happy to give most things a go. (....probably aside from cooking. I'm not the best/most patient chef in the world, it has to be said!) I absolutely love working with kids and animals so if you have either then that's great! I can also teach illustration, and am in my element with creative work so if you have anything that needs done in that area then I'm up for it. :)

I've lived in Perth, Melbourne, Boston, Atlanta, Jakarta, Edinburgh, London and braved the constant rain in a tiny village in the Lake District in England over the duration of Covid lockdowns, and I've loved having all of these experiences.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

Skills I can share:
I've worked as an art teacher with people of various ages (mainly children) creating art and stories, and helped out at quite a few festivals over the years, as well as backstage theatre work making props. Working in bars and art supply stores means I've got the usual customer interaction, cleaning and organising skills etc, and I'm happy to share the process of creating picture books for publishers from start to finish.

I'm a very friendly and social introvert; I love people and can chat for hours, however sometimes I need time away from everyone and everything sometimes to recharge my energy. I find this a perfect balance for traveling, as it means I can have a great time meeting new people, but I also enjoy long walks or chilling out in a coffee shop with my book or paints by myself.

Something to note for hosts: I'm a digital nomad and will also need to be working on contracted books for publishers or my own illustration practice for about four hours a day. I'm flexible with schedules and happy to work around your work hours, but I am specifically looking for places that are digital nomad-friendly with a desk/power socket and enough time in the day either in the morning or afternoon for me to get a bit of my own work done too.

I’m also really interested in folktales, indigenous customs and traditions, and learning about different cultures, so I’d love to hear any stories from your homeland or any skills you can share! :)
