Hello there :)
My name is Anja and I am a 26 year old girl from North-Western Germany. I am infinitely curious about the world around me and would love to travel, learn new skills and make memories with friendly, open-minded people from all sorts of different cultures.
My goal is always to make the people I am with feel happy and comfortable and to leave them in a great mood. I enjoy making myself useful and helping out where I can.
Workaway was recommended to me by one of my university professors and I've had two amazing workaway experiences already! After I finish my studies in spring 2024, I'd love to do some more travelling and exploring :)
I am creative, sociable and a bit of a language/linguistics nerd. My favourite things are singing, acting, figure skating, sewing, the ocean, and chocolate with liquorice (a bit weird, but delicious! Trust me :D).

I am a total language nerd and would love to learn pretty much any language, dialect, or accent. Currently, I only speak English and German at a native level (plus basics in Spanish, Italian, and Latin) but have always wanted to be able to communicate with people from all walks of life. So if you're interested in practising your English (I can also teach university-level linguistics, grammar, history, and literature) / German and teaching me about your language, please contact me. I'd love to hear from you and maybe set up a zoom/skype/whatever call.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

CREATIVE SKILLS:
I work as an actress, mostly in musical theatre and opera, so I'm always happy to sing, dance, act, and make music with you :) Singing and figure skating are my two biggest passions!
I love all types of handicrafts, but the ones most dear to my heart are sewing and dressmaking.
Would also be able to assist you with any photo/video/editing projects or digital art. Could provide a decent quality drone for aerial shots :)
I'm happy to cook - and especially bake - for you. :)
I'm certainly not the most experienced person in terms of building/carpentry/etc. you'll come across on Workaway, but I have completed some in- / outdoor renovation projects and am happy to help out and learn wherever I can.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
I am currently an MA student of British and American studies at a university in Germany. I speak English and German with native-like proficiency and would be able to help with language teaching or translations. I've taught English linguistics at university level for two years + have my TEFL certificate in teaching English for business. If you're interested in publishing, I may also be able to help you out, since I have experience working for a scientific journal and could offer proof-reading and peer-review services etc.
I speak Italian at A2 level and am currently taking a course to improve my speaking skills - if you are a proficient speaker of Italian, I'd love to learn from you!

SOCIAL SKILLS:
I have experience in childcare and teaching (used to work as a German teacher to children from refugee families / as a nanny) and am very involved in caring for my grandparents with physical disabilities.
I am very interested in sustainable and culturally conscious developmental aid projects and have collaborated on fundraising projects with Worldvision and Unicef.
This past year I've been able to gain some experience in retail and customer service while working as a salesperson for glass and porcelain + worked as a weekend attendant at a car dealership throughout high school (although I do not know anything about cars - my job was mostly customer care :D ).

Was noch ...

I've unfortunately had a bit of a run-in with a dog a few years ago, so if you have a dog taller than about knee-height, please let me know so I can mentally prepare myself in advance ':D

I am eager to work wherever I can be of use, whether that be planting trees or teaching a language course. What is important to me is just that the people I would be staying with treat me kindly and with respect and I will most definitely do the same in return. :)
