Hello there!

If you are looking into my profile, you are warmly welcomed. I hope I can convince you in the following minutes and will eventually hear from you.

Some Information about me: I am 29-years old and born and raised in Dresden, Germany. Although my parents are Vietnamese immigrants, I also identify myself as German. During my high school years, I have spent one year in Alaska for exchange. There I lived with a lovely host family and visited a high school - like any American teenager. This year was one of the most intense years in my adulthood and has shaped me in every aspect of my life. After I have graduated from high school, I moved to Münster where I studied Business Administration. Last year, I have finished my undergraduate studies and in the following fall/winter semester I will start my Master studies with focus on Innovation & Technology Management.

During the semester breaks, I like to visit my family at home or travel to different countries with friends & family. However, two years ago, one trip has completely changed my view regarding traveling. Back then, I was visiting Valencia (Spain) just by myself. Although I did the ordinary touristic program, it was a completely different experience. By getting out of my comfort zone, I made new friends and tried things I would have never dreamt of doing. Fast forward to this summer: I just had finished my internship and planned on traveling through East Asia. One of my dream destinations was Korea, but I did not like the idea of visiting one place after another. I wanted to "live" there and experience the Korean lifestyle. I remembered a conversation that I had with a lovely lady a couple years ago. She was traveling through Germany and recommended me "workaway" for long-term travels. I was fascinated by this idea, so that I decided to register myself there. Eventually, I got accepted to a lovely place in Chuncheon where I was "teaching" English in a language café for four weeks. It was certainly one of the best experiences in my life. Thanks to workaway, I was exposed to the Korean culture in such a unique way and made many new friends along the way.

I hope you were able to make a good picture of me as it is very hard to get to know someone based on a profile. As you can see, I am looking for unique opportunities to travel the world and do not mind of getting out of my comfort zone.

Vom Workawayer (Anh Huong) für Host (Join us in our quest to ...)

It's been 6 weeks since I left Chuncheon and I still miss this place very much. As my first workaway experience, I was pleasantly surprised how smoothly everything went. Sue, Taewon and Haejin took great take care of us, volunteers, and were always available for us in case we had any problems/questions. They even invited us to lunch/dinner from… read more time to time and introduced us to many delicious Korean dishes.

Regarding the volunteer work, you work from Monday to Friday from 6.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. (latest), in 3 shifts. That leaves plenty of time to explore Chuncheon during the day or visit surrounding areas - like Seoul for example ;)
The students visiting the café come from various backgrounds and differ in their English skills. So you have to be creative when it comes to beginners. But don't worry, there are plenty of tools and games you can use to "break the ice". Nevertheless, the students are very eager to learn the language and to express their thoughts and opinions. Because of that, I had so many wonderful conversations and learnt a lot about South Korea from the students.

The appartment provided by Sue is literally next to the café. It has two bedrooms, a bathroom and a big living room space with a kitchen in it. Taewon manages that place and makes sure that we are not running out of basic necessities such as toiletries. He also checks for cleanliness once a week. Although food like rice, noodles and ramyun are provided, there are numerous restaurants and convenient stores right in front of the doorsteps. I highly recommend you to check them out since they offer delicious meals at a very affordable price. (We, volunteers, visited a little restaurant down the street. Unfortunately, I do not remember the exact name because I cannot read Korean. But I remember it is in the opposite site of 7/11 and has a huge yellow sign.) Besides of that, there are many bars and cafés closeby, as well as, karaoke rooms, PC rooms etc. for your entertainment.

Overall I had an amazing experience in the language café thanks to the wonderful people I have met there. I am forever grateful that this café was my first workaway experience and I will definitely visit Chuncheon if I come back to Korea in the future.

If you are interested in meeting locals and in learning about Korean mindset and lifestyle at first-hand, I highly recommend you to come to Chuncheon!
