We both want to live in touch with nature and to support others in doing the same. We are especially excited about farming, nature education, folk art, and cultural heritage.
Both of us have strong connections with East Asia. Zack was born in Taiwan, raised in Shanghai, and then lived in Taiwan for two years in his adult life. Emily has studied and worked with nature education programs in Yunnan and Beijing.
We are excited to spend time as Workawayers, so we can support meaningful projects and engage with local communities. If your projects are related to cultural heritage, nature education, or agriculture, we might be a good fit!Interessengebiete

Was könntest du arbeiten?
Emily: My background is in environmental humanities.
I hold a master's degree from Harvard Divinity School, where I studied the role of folklore, spirituality, and art in human-nature relationships. While there, I managed the campus vegetable garden and transformed it into a community space.
Alongside this, I have worked for local river and fish conservation groups. My focus has been building educational programming which helps people learn bout local ecosystems, highlights cultural heritage surrounding fishing, and utilizes art as a way to connect with place.
In addition, I have worked on sacred land restoration projects, youth exchanges, and art programs with Indigenous communities in the United States and Mongolia. This has included supporting Indigenous artists in presenting their work at Harvard Divinity School
Some of my hands-on skills include gardening, knitting, rock climbing, and creative writing. I am eager to learn more about farming and textile arts -- especially embroider and plant dyeing!
Most importantly, I value community. I love meeting new people, listening to their stories, and collaborating on creative projects together. This is what makes me excited about Workaway!

Zack: My background is in agriculture and education.
I have organized and taught history + mythology summer camps for four years, hosting 200 students between ages 8-15 each year. Each day would include multiple lessons in history, coupled with games, outdoor activities, and crafts. I therefore bring skills in youth education, game design, and history.
Alongside this, I spent most of adult life living and working on farms. I have worked with livestock (including cattle and pigs), building projects (like fencing and irrigation), and farming (such as corn, vegetables, and chilis). I am passionate about regenerative farming and use these techniques to keep soil healthy.
I am passionate about cooking and love to experiment with fresh ingredients. For instance, last year I grew chilis and made my own chili powder. I love to forage and learn about wild, edible plants. I usually cook for my family and will be happy to contribute to the Workaway Team in this way. (I also love Taiwanese cuisine, and am eager to learn more from others, too!)
Some of my other skills and interests include film, camping, mythology, and folk art.
Like Emily, community is a primary value for me, and I am excited to engage with local communities as a Workawayer. I am excited to learn from my hosts and to support inspiring projects!Alter

We would like to move to Taiwan for the long-term. Part of the intention of this trip is to make friends, find jobs, and decide where we want to live. Therefore, if you are keen to stay connected with Workawayers long-term, we might be a good fit :)
