For 2025, we are looking for fascinating experiences and projects in Africa (spring), Europe (summer), and SEA/Australia (autumn). We would love to do something with and for nature and sustainability.

Beschreibung

Hello everyone,
We are Jan and Verena, 34 and 30 years old, from Frankfurt, Germany.

We are currently planning our sabbatical, starting in February 2025, and are looking forward to meeting interesting people, learning new skills, sharing experiences and spending a lot of time doing practical tasks and being outdoors. We love the idea of a workaway. Getting in touch with local people, sharing ideas, learning all sorts of new things - sounds like the best things in the world combined!
As psychologists, we have both worked for a number of years in the public German youth aid system, as well as other non-profit organisations supporting refugees and children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
We are both active and outgoing people who love getting to know new cultures, exploring beautiful landscapes while hiking or mountain biking, or trying all kinds of sports and activities (kite surfing, tennis, rock climbing,...).
We love all kinds of animals! Verena spent most of her childhood on her grandparents' farm, riding horses and taking care of dogs, cats, cows and sheep. And she found Jan to share this love, especially for riding and dogs. Jan's parents are also skilled gardeners, and he would like to further improve his own knowledge and abilities in this field, especially organic and perma agriculture. During his seconds Master's degree in sustainability management, he got lots of theoretical and economic input on the subject, and would love to back it up with some hands-on experience - be it in construction, woodwork, installing solar panels, etc.
Jan is also a decent photographer and has some video recording and editing skills from cutting travel clips on Insta360 and DaVinci Resolve. Verena worked as a waitress in different places and managed the bookings. Currently she works as a lecturer in pedagogics and psychology at Frankfurt university. She will complete her PhD in Psychology in December, and Jan his Master's in January. From then on, it is time for some new and fabulous experiences.

We love to travel for longer periods of time and have done many longer trips to Central America, South East Asia, Oceania and some parts of Africa. However, we have decided that next year should be even more special, more slow, and more about connecting with people, sharing and learning.

As we are new to workaway, we do not have any references on this page yet. However, we do have plenty of references from previous employers and would be happy to send them to you if required😊.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

As a motivated and flexible person, I am used to working independently, and usually find something to do in every place – so I’m basically open for every kind of work and would love to learn new things and skills.
I would describe myself as a conscientious, active, warm and extraverted person. I have worked in various jobs: e.g. in different kinds of customer services and as an office and research assistant/lecturer. My last work was about coaching teachers and working with challenging kids and students, where I learned a lot about systemic coaching, as well as organizing and motivating staff and groups.
I am experienced in taking care of animals (my grandparents own a farm where I spent a lot of time helping with all kinds), horse riding (although I didn't do it a lot during the last 4 years due to my studies in Mainz), and dog sitting. During my studies and jobs, I also developed and enhanced my skills in working with different kinds of people, adults as well as children, a kind of work I cherish greatly. Finally, I have experience in organizing trips/events, coaching groups, cooking, and I am familiar with social media (Instagram, Facebook, cutting short videos .. ). Since I travelled a lot and spent one term in York, England, my English is advanced level.
