Beschreibung

Hello! I am from Western Massachusetts which is on the west coast of the United States.
I fell in love with traveling while hitchhiking in the southwestern desert in 2011. My friend and our dog were on the road for 6 months and it was amazing! Since then I have gone back to the southwestern desert and often volunteered in the winter.
I enjoy meeting new people, learning skills, and exchanging knowledge. When I first started volunteering my eyes were opened to the many attributes of communal living. I was amazed at how much I could learn from working and playing alongside all kinds of people who I would have most probably have never met other wise. I now have so many great unexpected new friends and a more enriched life!
At home I am a farmer, gardener, nature lover, adventurer, cook, artist, animal lover, and so much more! I offer experience in the skills listed above, a love of learning, and an openness to do so. I enjoy varied tasks and I don't mind doing things which are not glamorous!
Also, I am a hard worker. Generally I am an easygoing person who is also very responsible.
While not working I like to spend time enjoying I what there is to enjoy at any given place and time. When I travel I aim to immerse myself in a natural environment for extended period of time. I love nature and I find it's infinite geographies fascinating.
I am not one who needs to be entertained or always be with other people,especially when I am surrounded by nature.
I am quiet and respectful of other’s space, and I also enjoy socializing and good conversation.
Recently I am interested in ways in which people make different lifestyles work for themselves. I like to tread lightly (and without judgment.) I would like to experience first hand how others do so as well.
There is an endless list of things I'd like to learn about by doing while volunteering. Some of these include, permaculture in practice, alternative building and energy, mural making, yoga, meditation, the diversity of environments and inhabitants, medicinal herbs, making of anything from grown or wild harvested materials, hospitality, communal living, animal care... the list goes on!
Generally, I am looking to practice being where I am, experience new places, have meaningful interaction with interesting people, and to be to of help!

Ulanda’s presence has been such a gift to this farm, and everyone on it. We first made contact through WWOOF, but then through actual proximity, so she was actually visiting or here during six weeks, rather than the few days shown. She gently guided our greenhouse plantings, and got our kitchen garden cleaned up, and shared so much advice and experience with different plants, all of which she knows well. Her artistic sensibilities, experience in cooperative households, and comfort and desire for living close to the Earth enriched our time together. I would be thrilled if she visits Villanueva Fields during future winters in the Southwest, when she’s not running her own farm in western Massachusetts during their growing season.

Ulanda stayed on our farm and helped us for about a month early this year. She has a lot of farming and growing experience and was a great helper. We would be delighted to host her again in the future!

In the past couple of years that I have traveled I have not stayed with hosts. This year I am excited to do so while I go new places, engage in community while working, and learn skills.
