Hi, I’m Fedia Kourbatov! I’m 27 years old, born and raised in Chicago, and a graduate of the University of Oklahoma. My parents are Ukrainian, so growing up, Ukrainian culture and traditions were a big part of my life and helped shape who I am today.

After working in a corporate office job for four years, I realized I wanted something different — more learning, more connection, and more experiences outside the 9-to-5. That’s why I’m traveling through Central and South America to meet new people, learn from them, and grow along the way.

What I’m Looking For
I’m using Workaway to:
-Learn Spanish through daily immersion and practice with native speakers
-Improve my cooking skills and try new cuisines
-Become a better gardener (I enjoy working in the garden at home but want to learn more techniques)
-Work on my health and fitness through meditation, yoga, and sports
-Get better at salsa dancing
-Connect with new people, exchange cultures, and experience different ways of life

What I Bring
I’m outgoing, easy to get along with, and enjoy laughing and having a good time. Meeting new people is natural for me, and I love being active hiking, swimming, playing volleyball, soccer, or training mixed martial arts.
I’m also a quick learner and can help with almost anything, including:
-Physical labor and outdoor projects
-Gardening and basic home tasks
-Cooking and meal prep
-Working with kids and families or in customer service
-Tech-related tasks
And just about anything else where an extra set of hands is helpful

I also grew up in a Ukrainian household and would love to share a bit of my culture, traditions, or cooking if you’re interested. I’m excited to contribute, learn, and build meaningful connections everywhere I go.

¡Hola! Soy Fedia Kourbatov. Tengo 27 años, nací y crecí en Chicago y me gradué de la Universidad de Oklahoma. Mis padres son ucranianos, así que la cultura y las tradiciones ucranianas siempre fueron una parte importante de mi vida y ayudaron a formar quién soy hoy.

Después de trabajar cuatro años en una oficina, me di cuenta de que quería algo diferente: aprender más, conocer gente nueva y vivir experiencias fuera de la rutina. Por eso estoy viajando por Centroamérica y Sudamérica para conocer personas increíbles, aprender de ellas y crecer en el camino.
Lo que busco
Estoy usando Workaway para:
-Aprender español con práctica diaria y convivencia con hablantes nativos
-Mejorar mis habilidades culinarias y descubrir nuevas recetas
-Convertirme en mejor jardinero (disfruto mucho trabajar en el jardín de casa, pero quiero aprender más técnicas)
-Cuidar mi salud y condición física a través de meditación, yoga y deportes
-Mejorar mi baile de salsa
-Conocer personas nuevas, intercambiar culturas y descubrir diferentes formas de vivir
Lo que ofrezco
Soy una persona sociable, relajada y me gusta reír y pasar buenos momentos. Me resulta fácil conocer gente nueva y disfruto mucho estar activo, ya sea haciendo senderismo, nadando, jugando voleibol, fútbol o practicando artes marciales mixtas.
-También aprendo rápido y puedo ayudar en casi cualquier cosa que necesites, incluyendo:
-Trabajo físico y tareas al aire libre
-Jardinería y mantenimiento básico
-Cocina y preparación de comidas
-Trabajo con niños y familias
-Tareas relacionadas con la tecnología
-Y prácticamente cualquier otra cosa donde pueda ser útil

Además, crecí en un hogar ucraniano y me encantaría compartir un poco de mi cultura, tradiciones o cocina si te interesa. Estoy muy entusiasmado por contribuir, aprender y crear conexiones significativas en el camino.

I would be happy to teach English to both children and adults. I am also fluent in Ukrainian and can offer Ukrainian lessons as well. I enjoy working with people of all ages and have experience teaching in school settings and community spaces. I’m on a journey to learn Spanish, but eager and committed to practicing every day. For me, language is more than just words; it’s a bridge. Learning Spanish opens the door to connecting with hundreds of millions more people across the world, hearing their stories, and sharing mine in return.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I’ve lived a full and varied life, and with that comes a wide range of experience. I’m at a point where I know myself well I’m flexible, reliable, and not afraid to roll up my sleeves. Just tell me what needs to be done, and I’ll do it.

For 4 years, I was a consultant at in Chicago. I used to joke that I was like a Ukrainian Swiss army knife, answering emails, meeting with clients, making presentations, creating processes, cleaning the office. No task was too big or too small, and I always kept a professional attitude. I love to think outside the box and come up with unique solutions

Beyond that, I’ve worked with children and young adults as a school substitute, and have been involved in nonprofits and community spaces where being adaptable and approachable is key. I’ve also owned and operated my own businesses, managed a homestead, and done everything from house painting and refinishing to decorating and gardening. I’m hands-on, good with people, and I take pride in doing a job well no matter what it is.

I don’t need luxury or a fixed routine. I genuinely enjoy being of use, learning something new, and being part of a place and its rhythm.

Was noch ...

One of my favorite pastimes is treasure hunting, whether it’s thrifting, exploring flea markets, or discovering antiques. I’ve always been drawn to things with history and character rather than anything brand new. I love taking old or forgotten items and giving them a second life, whether that means refinishing furniture, repurposing materials, or turning something simple into something special.

I’m very passionate about sustainability and try to live in a way that’s thoughtful and green, repurposing everything from furniture to clothing. I believe in reducing waste, using what we already have, and being kind to the earth.
