  • Beschreibung

Hi and thanks for reading! My name is Thomas. I’m a 37 year old Navy vet and current online student of natural medicine at American College of Healthcare Sciences. I've had an interesting life that has taken me to three continents, 7 states of residence, many states and countries passing through. It's taken a long time to find my path, but now that I'm on it, I am full of hope and committed to it.

My goal here is to live with, work for and study under practitioners or knowledge keepers of homesteading and/or natural medicine while pursuing my degree online thanks to the GI Bill. Ideally, I would like to be somewhere until May, when my fiancee graduates college in LA so we can start adventuring together. Very open to shorter stints, as well as taking a couple weeks initially so we can make sure we mesh well before talking about a longer stay.

I want to study herbalism and plant medicine from people in real life.

I want to work with plants in the garden and in the wild, learning how to take them from seed to harvest to processing as food, clothing or medicine and then back to seed again. I want to understand and appreciate the whole lifecycle of plants and animals and our relationship with them.

I want to be around people who care about what they are doing, who do things with genuine love and gratitude.

I want to be involved in the caring for of people, be it medicinally, nutritionally, emotionally or spiritually. All are connected in my opinion and experience.

I want to learn small dwelling construction. Ideally, by the time it's all said and done I will have experience building things approximating a hobbit hole, a tiny house, earth-ship and yurt.

I want to be around and work with the trees. Oaks, ash, pine, tamarack, cedars, maple and all the berry trees speak so sweetly to me. From exploring in the woods to making medicines to chopping wood by hand, I do it with love and gratitude.

I bring true enthusiasm, an eager heart to learn, a love of good work, an appreciation for the hosts who give me space to do the work and gratitude to the creator who's love makes this world possible.

If desired, I've got great references that I am happy to provide you with!

  • Was könntest du arbeiten?

I've had a lot of employment diversity. It's been a journey as I've always been happy to try new things, done well at them. It's only been in the last couple years that I've found my calling to in helping, teaching, learning, sustainability and healing as a way to rebel against the uglier aspects of humanity. Below I'll list some of the jobs I've held over the years.

    - Farming basics: gardening, animal care, light construction and minor repairs.
    - Basic livestock and wild game slaughtering, butchering, and processing
    - Foraging and medicine making: I know a very little with lot of interest. I've worked a good bit with mullein, tamarack, cedar and am studying a little of a practice called Southern Folk Medicine as a way to balance natural whole being healthcare with modern medicines.
    - Retail: basically everything you can imagine from front end to stocking, management and everything in between including multiple types of forklift operation
    - Cable and satellite installation: 2 years for AT&T installing cable, internet and satellite television using ethernet and coax
    - Logs and records and system administration: 4 years in the navy logging aircraft maintenance on all levels from flight logs to part changes. basic computer networking. I enjoy doing logs and records work but not so much the hi-tech side these days.
    - Deckhand and tankerman: I worked for a year on the Intercoatstal Waterway learning deckhand skills like line throwing, loading and unloading hazardous chemical barges, cooking and cleaning, boat painting and scraping
    - Cannabis industry: I went to Colorado a couple years ago, learned the weed industry from seed to shelf doing great work with trimming, growing and harvest. Harvesting and trimming cannabis are hands down two of my favorite activities even though I no longer smoke it.

  • Was noch ...

I'd love to play music with folks...I've been learning a little bit about bass playing, have done drumming in the past and wouldn't mind learning instruments like tin whistle, flute, lute, or hand drums. Mostly though, I just play and see what comes out for my own enjoyment.

Foraging is another big interest: I want to learn the plants and animals of the area, how and why they interact. I want to know what medicines or unexpected edibles can be created from common local plants.

Books: I love good poetry, science fiction and fantasy reads. Books on medicine, local history, spirituality and lore also catch my eye really easily.

Yoga and meditation: Both are things I'm very interested in learning about and practicing daily though I don't know much about either yet.
