Hello! My name is Skye.

I am very lucky to live in a beautiful place in Kenya, 2 hours away from the nearest city. My family and I live off grid using solar power and a borehole and we have just started growing our own vegetables and fruit. We have some rescue donkeys, chickens, goats and two milk cows. I would love to learn more about permaculture and off grid living as well as skills like making cheese or other natural products. I am very new to organic farming so it would be great to learn some tips and tricks!

I studied at a boarding school in England for 5 years and I am now working and exploring.

When I am at home in Kenya I help my family run our businesses. We have two beautiful bush homes where guests can enjoy being surrounded by nature. I manage the bookings and do all our social media. I also make sure the houses are perfect for when our guests arrive. We also have a large scale candle making businesses.

I really enjoy making my own natural products and I hope to one day start my own business. At the moment I make most of my own skin care products like soap, tallow moisturiser, lip balm etc.
I also really enjoying making ferments like kefir, kombucha, ginger ale and sauerkraut. I also love baking and making bread.

I am very interested in health and nutrition. I really enjoy hiking and being in nature. So would love to have the opportunity to experience these more. I have a great love for animals and have a habit of adopting a few too many :).

I am motivated and ready to get involved with any task.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

My family own and run two businesses in Kenya which I have really enjoyed being a part of. We make hand made candles with beeswax which have become really successful. We also have two beautiful holiday properties which take up most of our time as we like to maintain a high standard. I take a lot of the bookings and love making sure the houses are perfect for guests when they arrive.
I run the social media for our properties including Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook. Please check out our instagram account - @Tandalaestate. I have learnt a lot about social media and these accounts are doing well. I would be very happy to help others with what I have learnt but I would also love to learn a bit more about it too.

I worked at a Lebanese restaurant in England. I started as a kitchen porter going on to work as a line chef which I really enjoyed as I learnt a lot and improved my cooking skills. I also really enjoyed the challenge and learnt that I could work well under pressure.

I have worked as a front of house manager at a luxury safari lodge in Kenya. I would great and brief guests on arrival and organise all their activities during their stay. I would be on hand to assist other members of staff and make sure everything ran smoothly. It was a great job with very early starts at 5:30am to see guests off on their game drives.

I have done a few workaways in Portugal and Scotland that went really well. This included a long stint as a waitress in a cafe in Scotland and maintaining gardens and a little BnB in Portugal.

I make most of what we eat from scratch. I find it very rewarding to have a store full of homemade jams, pickles, crackers, bread, kombucha and fermented vegetables (sauerkraut, pickled cucumber etc). I would really like to learn how to can food, this is next on my list!
I also make tinctures and teas from herbs in our garden.

Was noch ...

I like spending time with people but I am also very happy to be by myself. I am no stranger to being far away from towns and people for long periods of time.

In my free time I love reading, painting, cooking with produce from the garden, second hand shopping/thrifting, swimming, going for walks and hikes.
I really love music, especially classical.

I would like to move towards a more natural, sustainable and simpler way of life. Just be able to slow down, be present and find joy in simple tasks.

I love travelling and seeing new places. I have been lucky enough to visit countries such as; India, Dubai, Morocco, South Africa, Tanzania, France, Turkey, England, Scotland, Portugal & Spain.
