Hello, my name is Simon and I am 25 years old and I live in Leuven, a small city in Belgium. Currently I am traveling for a year.

From the age of 12-18 I was active as a scouts. This means that, every weekend, I was in the Belgian woods playing and building camps. During my last two years I worked, with the scouts, on respectively two projects abroad: helping on a WWOOF organic farm in Romania and helping at a SOS children’s village in Croatia. After my years as a member, I became a scout leader for two years and was responsible for a group of 20-30 children.

During my time at the university, where I studied engineering, I started to feel that my studies were very detached from the real world. Thinking in a theoretical framework is very interesting, but building something in the ‘real’ world is quite different. That is why I got involved in a Humasol project. Humasol is a non-profit organization with as goal to make renewable energy, water and durable technology available for everyone. They have projects in Africa, Asia and South-America. I worked on a project in Burkina-Faso. It took one year of at home preparations and then followed by a two month on location realization of the project. We installed a solar pump and a piping network that could provide water for a children’s school.

My greatest passion is acting. I think it is one of the most beautiful art forms and it will forever be a part of my life. Currently I am involved in two theater companies. Besides acting I have a great interest in arts in general: music, dance, painting, literature,... I fill my days, here in Leuven, with as much of these as possible and I am always eager to discover new things.

I have WorkAway experience when traveling through Italy, where I worked on a ranch. From the moment that I left the ranch I knew one day I would look for a new WorkAway, and here I am.

So, I am an enthusiastic, fit, healthy and happy young man that loves to be in nature and has a passion for art. I have done a WorkAway in the past, and know my way around with basic tools. Besides hands-on work I also love to do more intellectual work. I am very familiar with electrical and IT problems. Respect and kindness towards others are very important to me and I try to help wherever I can, with a smile on my face.

    Looking forward to meet you!
