I'm volunteering with the European Solidarity Corps in the Netherlands Antilles, in Curacao and Aruba. I'll come back to Europe on the 28th of October and then I'll move to Alzira (Spain).

Hi!
I'm Sara, a 30 years old Italian woman in a kind of "sabbatical year".

I believe in a slow approach to life and to travel, the so-called "pedagogy of slowness", which underlines that lands (the external and internal ones), people, ideas, communities, cultures, have their own dignity and rhythm. When we travel, sometimes we forget to respect the place that is hosting us, considering it more like an "amusement park" than a shrine; when we live, sometimes we forget our own pace.

I've always spent time for the land to which I belong and that I love, either through my job in the social and educational field (in the last years, with homeless people and families with migration background) or volunteering during my free time (for different associations: feminist group, political activism, informal Italian language school).

Now I feel that I have to explore a little more outside the world I know, dedicating time to myself and enriching my soul with cultural exchange. I would really like to improve foreign languages (and the cultures they bring) and to discover nice places able to mix together beauty and commitment to their community.

Some Palestinian poets say that those who want to remember must look for memories around the world, because they are hidden and want to be discovered. I wish I would remember the faces of people I love in the traits of strangers met far away, and to see the profile of my house in unknown places. This would be the real richness for me, and maybe to be able to preserve this attitude towards life finding in future a nice and sustainable job and a pretty community in which sharing projects.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I am a curious person and I have (I hope so) the ability to take care of people, places and ideals. I can listen. I have a socio-educational background (I worked with children, migrant families, homeless people, elderly people). I have experience in coordinating groups of people and I can design educational paths.
In the last year, I volunteered at a social hostel in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, developing skills in cleaning the hostel spaces and in working at the front-office.
I am actually volunteering for a European project in the Netherlands Antilles, taking care of children, donkeys and sea turtles.
I have collaborated with the University of Milan and I am able to give shape to ideas and concepts, also for dissemination.
I like to take care of the house and to take my time to prepare food.
I have experience in teaching Italian language to foreign people and in teaching swimming, especially to kids.

Was noch ...

I love to practice "balfolk" (popular French dances) and to take long walks alone while listening to music; for my well-being, I recently discovered that I need a private space and a shared kitchen, I need to have the possibility to see the waves of the sea and the one to dance and to listen to live music. I like to cook (especially for family and friends), to clean and to live in a cozy space; I express my feelings through written worlds and food, and I can grow only in an honest communication. I like to go the cinema but I don't watch the tv. I love to practice languages as a way to better understand people and cultures in informal contexts, but I also appreciate a lot taking part in language classes.
