Beschreibung

My name is Sam. I'm a 30 year old from Victoria, Australia. I'm travelling with my girlfriend, Susan, who is 27 and from Canada. We are in a Toyota Hiace 4X4 campervan and aim to explore everywhere between Victoria and the NT, spending the majority of our time in WA.

I describe myself as an environmentalist, so I spend my life doing things related to the environment: travel, outdoor activities/sports, wildlife and environmental conservation. My work back home is in land/forest/fire management, so I get to enjoy it all while on the job. As a result of this, and growing up on a sheep farm, I have a very practical skillset. I can be set any task with tools/equipment/machinery - whether it's in construction, in the garden, on a farm, you name it - and if I haven't already had experience I should be able to work it out and get the job done.

Susan, or Suze, is a a physio and is very good at diagnosing people's musculo/skeletal issues and providing rehab/exercise advice. She's capable in the house/kitchen, with kids and animals, and will have a go at pretty much everything.

We are both technologically/administrationally literate, so can help out anyway there as well. I studied architecture/green design, so can help in that area if you have new project ideas.

We are both very laid-back but positive people, keen to try anything new and have a laugh. We love meeting new people, getting to know locals and seeing what happens in their local area, and learning about their culture. Experiences like this are what makes life rich.

Back home on our family farm in Victoria my family have been hosts for many years, and we have met many life-long friends who have come as WorkAwayers. We hope to have the same experience but as the travelers this time.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I have a degree and experience working in architecture, so design and construction with a focus in sustainability is one of my key skill sets. I am experienced in the practical side as well with strong woodworking and carpentry skills. This experience has also led to a strong use of computers for drafting and any graphic design tasks.

I grew up on a large farm and garden, so any machinery use or gardening work is no trouble. I have recently worked as a forest firefighter, so I have knowledge and skills in forestry and chainsaw use.

I have also completed higher education in sustainability in general, and therefore can design sustainability strategies for houses, businesses, properties etc. E.g. a sustainable water use plan for a property utilising rainwater and management of wastewater; a strategy for a business to reduce plastic use and waste; a passive design strategy to make a building more energy efficient.
