Hi my name is Ollie and I'm an Australian backpacker who is very excited to visit new places, learn about new cultures and meet incredible new people. I adore learning new things (from environmental knowledge, DIY projects, crafts, cooking, dance styles), as well as exchanging skills and knowledge that I have.

I studied environmental science and am heavily motivated by all things relating to the environment- whether it's learning about new plants and their historical uses, bioconstruction and sustainability projects, or looking at environmental impacts in daily life. I am excited to learn more about sustainable living practices and all of the environmental projects people are doing around the world, and do what I can to help people with these projects.

Meeting new people is always a highlight of travelling for me. I love hearing and sharing stories and learning from the people I meet. Communal living and hostels are some of my favourite places to do this, because you get to meet such an array of people from different backgrounds and build deep connections. I have volunteered in hostels in the past and absolutely love it.

Food is another love of mine. I am always motivated to learn about new ingredients and dishes, and would love to discover new cuisines and recipes from people I meet in my travels. Back home in Australia I am a passionate home cook with lots of recipes to share.

My favourite food to cook is Japanese or Thai food, but there are very few things I don't enjoy cooking or eating. Food is always better when shared, and so usually when I cook I'll make enough to share with a lot of people. When I'm not learning new things or exploring new places, I love being creative, whether that's through dancing salsa or with my hula hoop, making jewellery or learning a new craft.

Holis soy Ollie! Una viajera australiana que es super emocionada para conocer nuevos lugares, aprender de nuevas culturas y conocer gente chido! Me encanta aprender nuevas cosas (como conocimientos de medio ambiente, artesanales, cocinando, estilos de baile), además de intercambiando las habilidades y conocimientos que tengo.

Estudié ciencias de medio ambiente y estoy muy motivadas por todas las cosas que relaciona al medio ambiente- desde los usos históricos de plantas locales, hasta bioconstrucción, proyectos de sostenibilidad o estudiando los impactos de la vida cotidiana en el medio ambiente. Me emociona aprender más de vida sostenible y ver todos los proyectos para el medio ambiente que hace gente en todo el mundo, y ayudar con estos proyectos.

Conocer la gente nueva siempre es una de mis partes favoritas de viajando. Me encanta escuchar y compartir cuentas y aprender de las personas que conozco. La vida comunitaria y los hostales son algunas de mis lugares favoritas para hacer esta, porque siempre se puede conocer una diversidad de gente y crecer conexiones profundas. He trabajado como voluntarias en varias hostales en el pasado y lo disfruto mucho.

Comida y cocinar es otro amor mío. Me motiva mucho aprender de nuevos ingredientes y platos y me encantaría aprender de nuevos cocinas y recetas de las personas que conozco durante mis viajes.

La cocina de Japón o Tailandia son mis favoritos para cocinar, pero me encanta cocinar y comer casi todo tipos de cocina. La comida siempre es mejor compartido y así usualmente cuando cocino hay suficiente para compartir con otros.
Mientras no estoy aprendiendo cosas nuevas ni explorando nuevos lugares, me encanta ser creativo. Si es por bailando con mi hula hoop, haciendo joyería o aprendiendo una nueva artesanía.

English: After living and travelling in Latin America for 20+ months my Spanish is almost fluent (although with a thick Mexican accent...), however I'm always looking to learn more! I believe that immersion is the best way to learn/perfect a new language, and I am very comfortable in environments that are 100% Spanish speaking. That being said I don't mind speaking English, and would be very happy to share my English or even Spanish skills with those around me! Español: He pasado los últimos 20+ meses viviendo en y viajando por America latina y mientras mi español es muy fluido (pero pues con un acento bien mexicano wey), siempre quiero aprender más! Creo que la inmersión es lo mejor manera para aprender/perfeccionar un idioma nuevo, y estoy muy cómoda en entornos 100% hispanohablantes. Sin embargo, también me gusta hablar ingles, y estaría muy feliz compartir mi idioma con los demás

Was könntest du arbeiten?

- Strong Spanish skills (C1/C2) and fluent in English.
- Over 7 years of hospitality experience in Australia, Europe and Mexico. I have worked in restaurants, bars, cafes, beachclubs, hotels and hostels and so I have a wide range of skills in this sector. For example, I have developed strong communication and problem solving skills in English and Spanish, such as when addressing and resolving customer requests and complaints. I can also make espresso coffee and shake a few cocktails ;)
- Working and volunteering in hostels and hotels on reception, hosting activities, working the hostel bar and as cleaning staff. This required me to build strong connections with guests and generate personalized tourist information such as self walking tours tailored towards each guests preferences. I am comfortable working across language barriers.
- Cooking, whether teaching recipes or cooking for a group.
- Creativity, patience and persistence: I am a jeweller and so patience and persistence are skills I have a lifetime of practice of.
- Hula hooping: I love dancing/doing circus tricks with my hula hoop and I am always happy to teach new tricks to people. I also have a dance background and enjoy performing.
- I have a lot of knowledge about landscapes and how they are formed, and always enjoy when I get to share this knowledge while guiding others through beautiful places.
- Through my work experience, years of travel and living overseas, I have learnt to easily adapt to new situations.
- Recent workaway experiences have taught me a range of skills such as building fences out of locally harvested plants, to harvesting crops and weeding, and even cleaning sheep skins to make rugs.

Was noch ...

I love dancing! In Mexico I started learning Salsa and Bachata, and I am excited to learn new skills and styles while I travel. I have also started learning about food foraging and am excited to learn about more edible or useful plants from around the world
