Hello, my name is Olaya. I am currently planning a 3-month trip through Europe and the United Kingdom to practice languages before returning to Mexico to my job as a teacher and communication coordinator, and then taking exams for a master's degree in Education and Art.
I come from a large family that has taught me all sorts of things, from aunts who instructed me in the culinary arts to uncles who showed me how to do simple electrical installations and household repairs (carpentry, painting, and a bit of plumbing). My mother (an artisan and accountant) always showed me that creativity is one of the most valuable qualities when solving a problem, and my father (a psychologist) taught me to listen to others with full attention. My sister (a biologist) instilled in me her love for science and especially for plants. I carry all these teachings with me wherever I go, as I believe they are invaluable tools, perhaps even more so than those learned in my years of school.
I have two bachelor's degrees, one in Communication and the other in Intercultural Management. Additionally, I have completed specialties in Multimedia Communication, Film, and Social Anthropology. In the last five years, I have worked in the Digital Marketing area for one of the most important film schools in Mexico (ESCINE). I will be taking a 5-month sabbatical leave from my job to embark on this trip that I have planned and postponed for a long time.
I am passionate about film and writing; I love getting lost in the fictional stories offered by cinema and literature, but I also adore listening to the stories of the people I meet along the way. I am a firm believer in long conversations, but I also love silence, as it is in silence that ideas are conceived.
I am very excited about this trip. I have had a couple of experiences in the past with volunteering and have always gained great learnings. I know I have a lot to contribute, from specific knowledge related to marketing, photography, and website creation, to general help with gardening, orchards, and animal care. I also believe I could be of great support to families needing help at home and with childcare.

Hola mi nombre es Olaya. Ahora mismo me encuentro planeando un viaje de 3 meses por Europa y Reino Unido, con el fin de practicar idiomas, para después regresar a México a mi trabajo como profesora y coordinadora de comunicación, y posteriormente presentar los exámenes para la maestría en educación y arte.
Provengo de una gran familia que me ha enseñado todo tipo de cosas, desde tías que me instruyeron en las artes culinarias, hasta tíos que me enseñaron como hacer instalaciones eléctricas sencillas y hacer arreglos en la casa (carpintería, pintura, y un poco de plomería). Mi madre (artesana y contadora) siempre me mostró que la creatividad es una de las cualidades más valiosas a la hora de resolver un problema, y mi padre (psicólogo) me ha enseñado a escuchar a los otros con atención plena, y mi hermana (bióloga) me ha inculcado su amor por la ciencia y sobre todo a las plantas. Todas estas enseñanzas las llevo conmigo a donde sea, pues creo que son herramientas valiosísimas, y tal vez mucho más que las aprendidas en mis años de escuela.
Tengo dos licenciaturas, una en Comunicación y la otra en Gestión Intercultural. Además, he realizado especialidades en Comunicación Multimedia, Cine y Antropología Social. En los últimos cinco años he trabajado en el área de Marketing Digital para una de las escuelas de cine más importantes de México (ESCINE). Tomaré una licencia de periodo sabático en mi trabajo de 5 meses, para realizar este viaje que tanto he planeado y pospuesto por mucho tiempo.
Soy una apasionada del cine y la escritura; amo perderme en las historias de ficción que ofrece el cine y la literatura, pero además adoro escuchar las historias de las personas que voy encontrando por mi camino. Soy fiel defensora de las largas charlas, pero también amo el silencio, pues es en este donde se logran engendrar las ideas.
Estoy muy emocionada por este viaje. He realizado un par de experiencias en el pasado con voluntariados y siempre me he llevado grandes aprendizajes. Sé que tengo mucho que aportar, desde conocimientos específicos relacionados con el marketing, la fotografía y la creación en páginas web, hasta ayuda general con la jardinería, huertos y cuidado de animales. También creo que podría ser de gran apoyo a familias que necesitan ayuda en casa y con el cuidado de sus pequeños.

I'm a little nerdy, I like science fiction, I love reading cheesy novels and listening to rock and blues. But I also like to dance although I'm pretty bad, but I try. And something very important, I like to learn and listen about other people and their lives. We all have an interesting story to tell.
