Hello, my name is Noelle.

I am from Germany and I am currently 18 years old. In July 2025, I graduated from school and started my gap year to take the opportunity to travel around, learn from new cultures and — most importantly — learn more about myself before proceeding to go to university.

In my free time, I read, meet up with friends, bake and am always open to collect new experiences. Besides that, I have also been working as a waitress for over one and a half years to afford traveling.

Since I feel like I have seen all the different facets Europe has to offer, I really want to visit other continents and learn about foreign cultures, as well as experience the outdoors, since I enjoy nature.

Was könntest du arbeiten?
Since I have grown up with animals (turtles, dogs and cats), I really like them but also know how much work they can be. Nonetheless, I enjoy taking care of them.
I enjoy cooking and baking. I know how to mop and how to do the laundry. Therefore I can be of help with chores.
In school, I took classes that taught me a basic understanding of technical devices.
Through relatives I am also experienced in watching over children.

I may not be the most artsy person but being a waitress has taught me to work hard, be patient and kind, and I am willing to do any kind of work.

I used to swim for eight years, which is why I really enjoy it and outdoor acitives in general.

Also, something that is really important to me when traveling is trying out the different cuisines. So I‘ll eat close to everything and appreciate every try (even if it‘s „just“ a national meal) from the hosts, to give me a look into their culture.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Join our happy family and ...)

My stay with the family included some new experiences, some of those were good and some of those were disappointing.
It was my first time using Workaway and traveling by myself. Therefore I am unsure whether my experiences are disappointing for a reason, but I want to keep this as fair as possible. Therefore, I'll start with the good ones,… read more because there were definitely some. My work was nothing difficult to do, and I had lots of free time almost every day. Sometimes, it felt like Cassandra was not satisfied with what I did, but communication and (mostly) being able to tell me what to improve made working enjoyable! I loved taking care of all the animals and especially the gardening was fun!
Additionally, the youngest daughter took me on three very nice trips, which she shouldn't have to, since it's not her hosting me, yet she did. That I really appreciated. If she hadn't done that, I would have been extremely lonely.
That is because, for the majority of the month I spent there, I felt unwelcome. I wasn't looked at, I wasn't greeted, and sometimes it felt like Cassandra really didn't like me. That, together with the fact that at one point I wasn't told to attend dinner (I don't need an invitation but as a guest in their house I didn't want to intrude with people who seemingly don't like me. So, in the end, I had four dinners with them even tho I asked to be informed about dinner) made me feel unwelcome and simply like a cheap worker. I am not sure if I really was not liked or if it's just the way they treat their Workawayers but either way, that was not a behavior that made me feel included and I was uncomfortable for a big part. Yes, I was invited to Thanksgiving, and a Halloween party, but I would have appreciated some communication and inclusion that genuinely made me feel like I was welcome and not only simply tolerated!
I didn't even get a proper "goodbye" (only from one daughter. She gave me a ride to the airport) and that has been stuck with me.
I am very well aware that it might just have been my expectations that were too high (I chose this farm specifically because they felt so fun and like they were looking forward to getting to know me on a personal level - which they didn't), but nonetheless I am disappointed.
I am still thankful for them having me and I think that communication was lacking a lot and that this whole situation could be based off of misunderstandings (and perhaps I could have done more, but I didn't want to annoy them by always being there). But still, it's not only my job as a Workawayer to approach the family and join all their family time, because in the beginning, I tried very hard to have a good relationship with them, and it felt like I was the only one making an effort (excluding the younger daughter and the older daughter who in some evenings did take a minute to have a short conversation with me) but that doesn't make up for how ignored I felt for a big part.

I am sorry for not having communicated that with you, but please take this as constructive criticism and make sure to be nicer to your workawayers because taking from the reviews you can be different, and I don't believe it's only my fault that my experience doesn't resemble those of others.
