Hey fellow Workawayers and hosts! I'm Myrte :)

I'm a 21-year-old Dutchie currently studying architecture, with plans to graduate next year and dive into philosophy studies. I live in Delft, a charming student city, in a communal building with nine housemates, which I absolutely love.

Two years ago, I had an amazing Workaway experience in Costa Rica that ignited my passion for traveling. Now, I'm eager to embark on another adventure!

I have a wide range of interests that keep me busy and inspired. I love music and going to music festivals. You can often find me reading books, writing in my journal, sketching, drawing, painting, crocheting. and practising yoga.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

My native language is Dutch, but I attended a bilingual school where classes were in both English and Dutch. As a result, I'm fluent in English too!

I have worked as a waitress at a beach club, saving up for this exciting journey. My work experience is quite diverse: I’ve been a babysitter, done administrative work, cleaned, managed housekeeping tasks, and even did retail and delivery work by bike.

I'm almost finished with my 'Architecture and the Built Environment' studies, which means I have a solid foundation in buildings, (landscape) architecture, urbanism, and more. My passions within these studies include sustainable and circular building, spatial justice, and communal living. While I’m still gaining practical experience, I’ve become proficient with software tools like InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Rhino (a CAD program for 3D design). Beyond these digital skills, we've also mastered sketching and illustrating with pen and paper, including technical drawing, perspective, and axonometric projections.

I am also experienced teaching music to children. I was active in a youth orchestra, helping younger musicians practice their parts. Although I used to play the cello, now I mostly jam on the guitar, guitalele (a fun mix of guitar and ukulele), and (double) bass. There's a big chance I take my guitalele with me when I'm traveling.
