Hi everyone,

my name is Mathilde and looking for an adventure abroad. I am 21 years old and a university student from Germany. As I am planning to start my masters degree in Psychology at the end of 2025, I am looking for an experience abroad to reconnect with nature away from the computer and studying.

I have always loved to be outside in nature. Even just going on a hike or enjoying the landscape at home from horseback have always been one of the things that give me the most joy. I am also looking forward to meeting new people and exploring new cultures. I am a social person who loves to make friends and easily gets along with everybody. I speak English and German fluently.

My biggest passion are horses which is why I would love to combine my traveling with this favorite hobby of mine. I have consistently been taking riding lessons since I was 6 years old. Working with horses in any kind of way brings me happiness. There is always more to learn about these amazing animals which is why I would love to experience living close to them and working with them every day.

All in all I am looking for a place to stay for about 2 months where I can help out with taking care of horses and other animals, as well as chores in exchange for learning about other cultures!

Experience with animals:
I have been taking horse riding lessons since I was 6 years old. In addition to that I have used every possibility to go on horse vacations (for example a 5-day riding trip through Iceland or summer courses). I have experience riding horses of any age with different personalities. I would describe myself as a rider who is calm while also having the discipline to work with horses that are scared or lack motivation. While horses are a big passion of mine I still believe that I have a lot to learn about them.

I also have experience working with dogs (dog-sitting, dog-walking) and enjoy their company. I love going on long walks, especially if I have a dog that could accompany me.

Other qualifications:
As I am a psychology student I believe that I would be a good fit for someone who might need help with taking care of children. I have previously worked as a tutor for children who needed help in school. In my current job I visit several different kindergardens and asses the development of very young children (for example regarding cognitive or language skills).

I would love to be part of the family by playing board games or cooking together! However, I do also appreciate a quiet evening as I love to read. I am very flexible when it comes to keeping myself busy or participating in any fun activity that anybody suggests that Day!

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Experience the fun kind of ...)

I stayed at Jenny and Pontus place for 2 months and it was an unforgettable experience!
This was my first workaway experience and I think this place was perfect for that. Jenny is an amazing host and has a lot of experience with workawayers so that everything is well organised. She is such a lovely person and we had so much fun together. I loved… read more the stories she told over dinner and the trips we took together. One time (due to her sister cancelling last minute) she even took me to see Ed Sheeran in Stockholm which was absolutely incredible! Jenny is very good at communicating so it was easy to talk to her when I had an issue with a task or in general. It is important for her to make everyone feel comfortable and at home. Pontus is also very easy going and funny. He is always happy to help and great to talk to.
The work was always manageable. You get a list of tasks every morning that have to be done (some are daily tasks and then the specific tasks for the day). That way I was able to plan my day to my liking and most of the time the limit of 5 hours was kept (some days less some days more). The tasks range from feeding the animals, riding, help tidy the house and depending on the season also bigger projects like fencing. I was there during summer so the other workawayers and I had a blast fencing in the sunshine and listening to country songs <3.
The horses were absolutely amazing and lovely to ride. Jenny rides western style and you will mostly go on trail rides. I could tell that the horses enjoyed going out and they are all very well taken care of. Jenny works as a farrier and I learned how to take off a horses shoe. She has a lot of knowledge about horses and was able to teach me so much. I felt like I was able to ask her anything and she was always happy to teach me something.
The kids are so nice and easy going so that babysitting never really felt like a task. They loved playing with us and even helped us with our tasks.
I met many other workawayers during my stay which was so fun. You live in a cozy cabin apart from the house which you share with the others (depending on if you are alone or not). Jenny usually tries to have about 2 or 3 workawayers at a time which I really enjoyed. The work is more fun that way and it was lovely to go on trips and do movie nights with the girls.
All in all I would recommend this place to anyone. This was such an unforgettable experience and already miss everyone so much. Thank you for everything Jenny and Pontus!
