Hello! My name is Lisa-Marie, I am 27 years old and from the West of Germany.

I am currently studying English and French at University. For the mandatory stay abroad in my English studies I would like to stay with an Irish family for 6 to 8 weeks and hopefully get to experience the daily life, culture, and nature of this beautiful country.

This would be my first journey with workaway, but three years ago I stayed on a farm in the south of France and in 2023 I spent a semester in France to study abroad.

I am a rather calm, but enthusiastic and energetic person who likes to go on hikes and little adventures, do yoga, or enjoy a warm cup of tea with a good book. I may seem a little shy at first, but I open up quickly and appreciate a heartfelt conversation.

I hope to be able to improve my English skills. Furthermore, I would be very happy if I had the chance to learn a few words of Gaelic. As I study French at university and am a native speaker of German, I happily share my knowledge of these two languages with anyone who is interested.

As a side job I give private tutoring in English, French and German. I absolutely love this job as I like to work with children. I have a gentle and understanding approach and try to support every child in his or her individual skills and personality. My students are around 11 years old at the moment, but caring for and playing with smaller children is something that I find very fulfilling, as well.

Furthermore, I am a passionate baker and like to cook a good home cooked meal. Doing work around the house or in the garden is also something I happily help with.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Join us and our children in a ...)

I spent 7 weeks in February and March 2026 with Deirdre PJ and their kids and it was one of the best experiences of my life! Right from the beginning when she collected me in Killarney Deirdre made me feel so welcome. She is a very gentle and genuine person. I appreciate that there was always was a very friendly, calm and communicative atmosphere… read more in the family with lots of fun and jokes, as well.

The house is located quite rurally and it is the most beautiful place to live in. Lots of nature, sheep, streams, waterfalls, mountains and beautiful hikes in any direction you go. I felt very well taken care of with Deirdre and PJ asking if I wanted something from the shops, collecting me from the bus and providing tasty food all the time.

My tasks were as described in the profile: minding the youngest boy two days a week and some household chores. Deirdre and PJ also asked me about my interests and distributed tasks accordingly and let me work independently. So I had the opportunity to do lots of baking and a little gardening, too, and help PJ with his work on the farm. Minding Paddy was one of my favourite things. I enjoyed playing, going on walks and making hot chocolate for him so much. He can communicate his needs clearly, entertain himself playing calmly for some time, and is a great help at baking, too. The older kids Amy and Micheál are very self-sufficient and responsible children and great with their younger brother. They showed me around, shared their knowledge about farming, play traditional Irish music incredibly well and taught me some card games, which was super fun. The children's grandparents are around, too, and offer support, tea and a biscuit whenever needed. It was a pleasure to visit them every time.

I was lucky to experience the beginning of lambing season towards the end of my stay. It's a very beautiful time with the entire family involved in checking sheep and feeding lambs. Bottle feeding lambs was one of the highlights of farm work for me. However, I enjoyed all of the farm work so much and really appreciate that PJ took the time to explain so many things to me about his work, showed me all the beautiful places where he had his sheep and never failed to crack a joke.

Deirdre, PJ, Micheál, Amy, Paddy, I am very grateful you let me partake in your life and shared so much of it with me. I came back home with a full heart and very inspired. So happy we are still in good contact, as I miss you very much and cannot wait to come back!

Lisa stayed with us for 7 weeks. We miss her so much already. My 4yrs old still asks for her.

She was a talented Baker and surprised us with apple crumble, brownies and buns for dessert.

She was amazing with our Kids especially our 4yrs old, keeping him entertained with games, walks, puzzles, painting and playing cards with the older kids.
