Hey we're Lauren and Jesse!
Were an Canadian/Kiwi couple moving to Japan from New Zealand for 12 months from September 2024! Lauren will be in Japan from the start of September and Jesse is joining in October!
Currently we are looking for a placement for the winter season (Dec-Mar) in the Nagano prefecture!
Lauren:
I am a Namibian/Canadian who has been living in New Zealand for the past two years, but in September 2024 I am making my way to Japan! I consider myself an easy going person who loves to immerse themselves in new experiences and to learn from what other people have to offer. My passions seem to be rooted in nature as I am avid hiker, skier, rock climber and slackliner.
I have experience in customer service, hospitality, cleaning, cooking and childcare. Being from Canada, I also have an immense experience in snow removal, driving in snowy conditions and ski season work. In 2022, I travelled across Europe and helped with several workaways in Italy and Portugal where I helped with permaculture gardening, cleaning, cooking and small building projects.
have also taken 4 years of Japanese, but like any language, I need practice speaking it in order to get better.
I am so excited to visit Japan and help out where I can!
Jesse:
I'm a Kiwi with a love of all things outdoors, meeting new people and experiencing different cultures. I'm joining Lauren in Japan at the end of October and cant wait to enjoy the Japanese Culture and snow!
I'm great wherever you want to put me and also strive to do my best! All my previous workaway experiences have been amazing on both sides and i'm really looking forward to doing some more! I'm very practical and excel at this type of work but have a wide range of experience including customer service, guiding, snow removal, cooking and cleaning, driving in winter snow and ice, ski and board technician, operating power tools and equipment, guiding, money handling, ski season work, back country skiing, baby sitting and anything in-between!

I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a double major in English literature and English linguistics, and have worked as an English teacher overseas. I am also keen to learn more Japanese.

Lauren:
I have worked as a teacher overseas and as a tutor, so I have a fair amount of experience with children. I am also familiar with permaculture, landscaping, gardening, and painting. Overall, I am a hardworking person who is willing to learn and can adapt to new tasks.
Jesse:
Customer Service - I've worked in multiple customer service based roles so know how to look after customers!
Anything Practical/DIY - Lot of experience in numerous positions and situations building, general maintenance, mechanical work, carpentry, ski and board tuning, landscaping
Management - My professional work requires a lot of project management and organization so I'm no stranger to this and responsibility!
Winter driving - I have a IDP and lots of experience driving in heavy snow and icy conditions.
Other skills include - Cleaning, cooking, babysitting, computer literacy and financials/money handling
