Hello, we are Kris and Merel!
We have lived together in the Netherlands for 4 years now.
Kris has been working in the hospitality and Merel has been working as a software developer/website builder.
Our dream is to buy a plot of land somewhere to build a homestead. We want to be closer to nature, to get out of the city and live a more conscious life. We would love to travel Europe to learn more about the various countries. Through Workaway we hope to meet new people and hear their stories and to learn some new skills that will help us build our homestead in the future. We would especially love to learn more about gardening and the techniques people use to live more sustainably and eco-friendly. One of us still works remotely 24 hours per week (digital nomad) in order to fund our travels. So the other person could do more volunteer work to make sure that we can still fill all of our hours. We can definitely be flexible about this and want to make sure everyone is happy.
We are both looking forward to get out of the city and see more nature, meet new people and learn new skills.

Kris would be interested in learning Italian. Merel would be interested in learning Polish. Kris could try to teach about Polish and Merel could teach about English and Dutch.

Was könntest du arbeiten?
Kris has a few years of hospitality experience. He has also begun to learn more about cooking through these jobs and would love to further practice cooking.
Merel has skills in website building and design as well as years of experience in administrative work.
Both of us do not have many practical skills yet but have grown up seeing our parents tackle all sorts of DIY/building projects. For example, Kris has helped his parents while they were building their own house from start to finish. So while we do not have many practical skills yet, we are not totally unfamiliar with carpentry, painting, gardening etc. We would love to get more experience in this because we dream of building our own homestead in the future.

We both love playing boardgames and being in nature. Merel also plays the ukulele and likes reading and Kris enjoys cooking and plays the bass. We would definitely enjoy spending our free time with the host(s) but would also be perfectly happy to have some quiet nights by ourselves or to explore the area by ourselves.

It was so nice to experience the quiet life in the French hills. The nature around there is beautiful. We mostly helped out with cleaning a bit, mowing and raking the grass and we cleared some creeks of plants. We had some nice meals together with Dina with great conversations and some fun nights… read more
