I am a 37 year old teacher for pupils with learning difficulties in primary school.
I grew up in a small town in the north of Greece called Drama. The nature there is astonishing and has rivers and two virgin forests and being in the mountains is a pleasure. As a kid I attended the swimming team of my town and loved being in the sea too. When I was 6 years old I was watching my father building our house and helped as a kid can, by giving him small bricks and tools when he was on the ladder.
Working as a teacher the last fourteen years I have been in some different places in Greece but the last 12 years I have settled in the biggest island in south Greece, Creta island.
I am married to a wonderful lady , Katerina the last 6 years. We are visiting Portugal together but she will have to leave early.
The last 2 years, my students and I, have built a small garden in our school yard. We have been planting, growing and harvesting organic vegetables, which has a huge impact on our lives. I am trying to teach my students the principles of organic farming and how to leave the minimum environmental footprint. However, since the region is rural, it seems that they teach me.
I love travelling and exchanging cultures, as well as offering a hand to people who are in need. I enjoy working in the fields, with wood and in the constructions, building or renovating. The last 3 years I also work as a massage specialist specialized in pain relief and musculoskeletal problems. I can treat patients suffering from lower back pain, shoulders, upper back and neck pain.
On my free time I love surfing, rock climbing and fishing with my father during the summer. During the winter I am harvesting olive trees and I produse extra virgin olive oil.

I just found out about Work away and got really enthusiastic! I have always wanted to travel and meet locals this way, but never took the chance to give it a try. So now is the time. I intend to visit Portugal with my wife and then explore the country for 2 weeks approximately on my own. I would like to take part in interesting projects , meet new people and explore Portugal through their "local" eyes. Being from Greece I am sure we have a lot of things in common as we are both Mediterranean countries.
Finally I love surfing and I would like to experience surfing the Atlantic waves, too.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I am a teacher in primary school but I like doing many other things , mostly working with my hands. I also work as a massage therapist the last three years. I love working in the garden and in the fields. Wood is the material i enjoy mostly having in my hands. For this reason I have also built a piece of furniture for storage on my own. I can do almost any job reffering to wood, especially when the instuctions are clear enough. I also enjoy working in the constructions as well. I have helped my father built our summer house, and also worked in eco builting project in France last summer. In two pirctures it's me and my friend building a canadian well near Bordaux.
Finally I love being in the sea. I have a skipper's license and have made a few small trips in Greek sea.

Was noch ...

I enjoy meeting new people and hearing their stories, seeing their points of view about life and their goals for the future. When travelling I love learning the home culture and I always try to be part of the country I visit. Local people are the best "teachers" and work away the best way to experience that.
I love rock climbing, running and surfing. Cooking is also something I enjoy when there's time for that!
