Hello! (Tere!)

We are Johanna and Voldemar, two fun loving, adventurous souls from Estonia who are ready to step out of our comfort zones, explore the world, and learn new things through Workaway. We are responsible, reliable, and always up for a challenge, but also know how to keep it light and enjoy the ride. We have our own unique qualities, but one thing we both share is curiosity, passion for learning and liking for hands on work.

I (Johanna) am 22 years old, currently studying business in Tallinns Economy School (Tallinna Majanduskool) while working as a CEOs assistant. My days are full of organization, problem solving and multitasking. Outside of work and school my heart belongs to animals. I have spent three and a half years working in an animal shelter - 2 years as an employee and 1.5 years as a volunteer.
We also have two adorable cats: Mingel, a playful six-year-old rescue, and Manni, my bestest furry friend who has been my tiny companion for her wonderful 17 years of life. We have a dog as well. His name is Nico, he is a friendly 2.5 year old big bear. He has been well trained by Voldemar.

I (Voldemar) am 24 years old, and I have always loved figuring out how things work, whether it is fixing my motorcycle, working as an electrical bike mechanic or just getting my hands dirty with DIY projects. I have worked in all kinds of jobs: a package delivery courier, waitress in a restaurant, caregiver for two disabled boys in Finland and even helped out at a winery in Australia. I am also no stranger to military life where I earned recognition for my hard work and high motivation. There I also learned to drive trucks and armored vehicles. I am physically fit, love to challenge myself and enjoy dabbling in different martial arts.

We both love staying active and taking on physical challenges. I (Johanna) enjoy hiking, bouldering, and fishing (catch-and-release). In addition to that I have renovated a few apartments and built things like a greenhouse and porch at my summer house.

I (Voldemar) am basically a jack-of-all-trades with a curious mind and a slight tendency to get way too invested in new hobbies. One day I am strumming my guitar and singing, the next I am tinkering with engines or deep diving into psychology. I have even dabbled in acting, though my greatest performance might still be convincing myself I know what I am doing. I can be a bit of a nerd, I still like Yu-Gi-Oh! cards and chess - but I balance it out with a love for the outdoors. If you ever need someone to patiently teach you something, I am your person. I have always been the one showing the ropes at my jobs because, apparently, I have the patience of a saint (or just really enjoy explaining things).

Besides the physical work, we are both creative and love technology. I (Johanna) have an eye for digital design and marketing, while I (Voldemar) enjoy programming and troubleshooting tech problems. In addition we both enjoy gaming and/or relaxing to some TV shows or movies in our downtime.

One of the biggest reasons we are excited to join Workaway is because we are both eager to learn. I (Johanna) am particularly interested in sustainable living, baking, and survival skills - things I haven’t had much chance to try yet, but I am super keen to learn from those who live closer to nature. I (Voldemar) am always picking up new techniques, whether it’s in construction, mechanics, or learning more about life in general.

We are friendly, honest and easygoing, but we also know how to stay focused when it counts. We are both people oriented, and we genuinely enjoy connecting with others. We always do our best to make sure everyone feels comfortable and respected. :)

Was könntest du arbeiten?

Together we bring a lot to the table, from hands on work to creative and technical skills. We are both experienced in animal care, general maintenance, DIY projects, and vehicle repair (motorcycles, bikes, cars). We are physically strong, not afraid of hard work and enjoy getting our hands dirty with any task, big or small.

I (Johanna) am great at organizing, cleaning, and keeping things running smoothly, whether in an office or at home. I love organizing and creating systems. I also have experience in digital design, marketing and administration. At work i use all the office programs, Prezi and Canva are also no strangers to me. I (Voldemar) am great with physical tasks - whether it is fixing things (furniture, electrical houshold items, lights ect) working with power tools or tackling projects (creating website, laying floor). I also have a knack for teaching and sharing what I know.

I (Voldemar) am also good with people - from kids to older generations. I am patient, understanding and genuinely care about everyones needs. My experience as a caregiver and Johannas time at the animal shelter have really taught us how to listen, adapt and connect with anyone in meaningful ways.

We are also always up for creative projects and we love learning new things. Johanna sometimes paints and draws and does digital art. If there is something we don’t know yet, we are quick to pick it up. If there is something that needs to be done, but we lack the knowledge of how - we google! It is a skill and we have mastered it. :P

But we are not perfect and we are not afraid to admit it. I (Johanna) tend to get stressed easily when I feel overwhelmed because I am a bit of a perfectionist. I am my own harshest critic because I always want the best outcome. If someone is relying on me, I will deliver - even if I am stressed. I can also be a bit socially awkward, but I am working on that and that is actually one of the reasons I am doing Workaway. I want to grow my confidence through being more open and bold when it comes to social situations.

I (Voldemar) am hard working and always finish what is asked of me. But when it comes to my own discipline and projects I can get easily distracted or carried away. Sometimes that means I don’t fully master everything I start. I have learned a lot of skills at a basic level, but I am still figuring out which ones I really want to pursue. I sometimes feel insecure about not having fully mastered them yet, which is one of the reasons I want to put myself out there, meet new people, and get more experience to grow. I am also in the process of figuring out who I am, what my style is and what I truly want in life - so this adventure is a way for me to explore and gain those extra life lessons.
In addition to everything mentioned, we would love to introduce Estonia and Estonian culture to the others out there as well - there is so much about our home country that people don't know and we would be excited to share it.

So with all that said, we are adaptable, hardworking and ready to take on new challenges. If you are looking for someone who is open minded, reliable, and excited to contribute in any way possible, we would love to be part of your project!
