I'm Monique, I'm an arts educator with lots of experience surrounding working with young people and children. I have a passion for nature, museums, galleries and pretty much anything creative! Although if I had to be brutally honest, I'd have to say that food motivates me more than anything else!

Me and my partner Adam are looking for opportunities to help kind hosts - Adam is particularly interested in farming, permaculture and food production.

We both completed an RYA Competent Crew Course last year and would be thrilled to help out on any boats.

Was könntest du arbeiten?
Monique is excellent when it comes to organising - she excels at planning, building calendars, arranging procurement and creating spreadsheets. Her communication skills are equally as brilliant - having delivered hundreds of art workshops to young people aged 6 months to 18. She works effectively with individuals of all abilities and backgrounds - her positive attitude and patience are unmatched! Monique also has an artistic streak herself, with skills surrounding painting and drawing.

Adam has culinary experience from being a Chef de Partie at a handful of restaurants in London. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Adam worked to set up a soup-kitchen and food bank, which he managed for over two years. He then moved to run a city-wide food redistribution service. He is adept at managing projects and is always keen to roll up his sleeves and get stuck in!

We've been together for almost seven years. We're both Vegetarian! Adam is very tall (6 foot 8 inches), which may need to be considered for any homestays with low ceilings! But he's very useful when it comes to reaching things from any high shelves.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Organic and permaculture ...)

Me and my partner Monique had the most amazing ten days here! This is the first workaway we’ve ever done - we’ve been travelling around India for almost six months and this was truly one of our favourite bits.

The place is incredible. The camp is surrounded by beautiful hills and forests, giving you the chance to see as much local wildlife as… read more you want. At first we were taken aback by how much nature we could find here - including native birds, monkeys, geckos, lizards, scorpions, snakes and spiders. But our shock quickly turned to excitement and we got stuck right in and learnt tonnes about the local ecology.

We worked four hours each day on average, taking part in a range of tasks including: rewilding native grasses, surveying and fencing saplings, building a reed pond, painting small bird murals and assisting with herping tours. Everything was varied and we really enjoyed contributing to the great projects happening here. The team are really open to flexible working hours, we generally worked in the morning and had the afternoon off but a couple of times we shifted things around to accommodate Monique’s other work. We were even lucky enough to join a staff member on a snake rescue call. We’re both pretty scared of snakes (Adam especially) but this was an amazing experience - was so cool to see Syed in action!

The facilities were great too. We had a double bed in a hut that we shared with other guests for only a few nights. Most nights we had the hut to ourselves. Electricity was constant and reliable, we had mosquito nets and a lockable cupboard. Solar panels also meant that there was a hot shower each night, which was a real treat! We were served three meals each day and everything we ate was flipping delicious. There was a rotating menu including things like Lemon Rice, Palak Paneer, Dosas, Upma, some fantastic dals and chutneys, as well as rasams that were spiced to perfection! Great chefs here and there was always more than enough food available. We are vegetarian and always had a great selection - these guys do cater to non-veg too.

Do keep in mind that the internet is not great at the camp! There is some wifi but our phones struggled. I believe Sachin is currently working on improving this, so this issue will probably be gone soon. We had some work applications to finish while we stayed, which were tricky. But we did get to use the camp staff scooter and head to Cow Cafe (think more Cows than cafe) in our spare time to get some mobile data for hot-spotting.

By far the best bit is the fantastic team! All of the staff, interns and freelancers there were all so friendly, welcoming and kind. Special mentions to Syed, Vishwa, Beema and Ameer who we became very fast friends with! Bunch of absolute legends! So stoked we got to spend time with these guys. I know that with the internships the team here changes quite often. Still it seems that Sachin is very good at putting a wicked team together. We also got to chat and hang out with Sachin loads during our stay too, which was really interesting - he has loads of knowledge surrounding permaculture, herpetology, travel and making the perfect gin and tonic! An added bonus was going kayaking on a lake nearby!

All in all a fabulous volunteering opportunity! Thank you for having us both!
