Dear guest family, dear host,
My name is Grit. I am an outgoing, broadly interested, active, creative, sensitive and practical, person. I am very sporty and I like hiking, cycling and being outside in nature very much.
I love reading. Besides reading novels in German and English, I always use children's encyclopedias and knowledge books to build up my knowledge of foreign languages. Right now I am learning French.
I love playing and being with children and have worked as an au-pair three times, twice in London and once in Princeton (USA). There I learned English which I speak fluently now. I startet learning French 3 years ago.
Besides helping different friends with their children on a regular basis, I took care for my nieces (2) and nephews (2) especially during vacation times, as they live in Hannover or Berlin. At the moment I am helping neighbours on a regular basis with their three children, a 3 1/2 year old boy called Jonathan and two 16 month old fraternal twins. I also take care of a 3 year old boy called Oskar for our direct neighbours. I love playing, reading and singing with them and doing gardening or collecting wild plants with Jonathan who is very keen on this.
I am a good cook and I like to try out new recipies. I have been a vegetarian for a while now. I sometimes eat fish and chicken.
I have quite a lot of experience in gardening. I grew up helping in my fathers garden. I did a 1 year volunteering job in the beautiful garden of an elderly people care home.
I have been part of the community garden project "GemüseheldInnen" in Frankfurt for two years now. We have 22 different gardens. I am part of three different garden teams, a Market garden, a Forest garden and the "Stadtfarm" - our biggest garden project, which has a huge market garden with mixed cultures and which has a lot of ongoing projects. I often help with projects where people from companies come to work with us on a social day, guiding and showing them how to do tasks like building a living hedge. I also regularly take part on participation activities in different gardens of our project, where everyone can join and work with us. After or during the work we always have a picnic together, where we share the delicious things everyone brought.
I am a very practical person and I just love doing things with my hands. I always search for suitable solutions with the things that souround us, to use what is there already to repair or build something.
I am very interested in wild plants and in perennial plants and I am an ongoing learner on this vast topic. I love to make wild plant salads.
In 2022, 2023 and 2024 I was five times in France for two to three weeks, helping a workaway host in Villevêque, Pays de la Loire, with her forest garden project. We have become friends and I love returning there and helping with whatever has to be done then. This has been up to now: all kinds of garden work, painting, sawing, building a raised bed, cooking, baking, dishwashing, cleaning, organising events, welcoming guests, playing and reading with a foster child and finding better solutions to make the work easier for my friend.
I did not participate in the workaway exchange as I had planned to and have not engaged in new projects in the last years. My wife was ill and therefore my presence was mostly needed at home.
I am very interested in getting to know new cultures, new things to do, different ways of living and other languages.

I am interested in learning new languages. When I learn a new language, I listen to podcasts in this language, read articles and children knowledge books to build up my understanding and the vocabulary. The best and fastest way to learn the spoken language for me, is to spend some time in the country, where it is spoken. That's how I learned English, Spanish and how I am learning French. Besides speaking English fluently. I understand Spanish quite well, as I spent two months in Madrid but would need some time to find the active vocabulary as I have not used my active Spanish for at least 15 years. I have been learning French for 3 years now, which I can understand and speak quite well by now.

Was könntest du arbeiten?
I am very practical and have a very strong practical sense. I love using my hands. I am good at repairing things and always try to find practical solutions. I have practical experience in painting the walls, the fence, a wood wagon, putting together furniture, building living hedges and repairing stuff. I usually repair my bike myself and I know how to change tires and break shoes of a bike.
I know how to do all kind of garden work as I used to help in the garden when I grew up. Now I am working in the community garden project "GemüseheldInnen" where I often help with participation activities, where we do different tasks, for example preparing the garden beds, planting, sowing, weeding or building a living hedge. I have experience in permaculture.
I am very experienced with children of almost any age beginning at around 4 month of age. I like playing, doing sports and spending time with them. I love reading books aloud to them. I also like singing with them. I usually spend a lot of the time playing outside with the children.
I can cook. As I have been a vegetarian for some time, I know quite a few vegetarian recipies. I also know how to prepare meat and fish and can prepare trout as well as an Indian curry. I am used to do all kind of household chores.

I like games where nobody looses, so mostly I play card games, table tennis or other games without counting points or looking for the winner, just for pure fun for everyone.
I like going on any kind of adventure with children, e.g. building huts or climbing on trees, showing them edible plants and fruits or living creatures. I love reading and singing with them. I also like showing them how to prepare food or how to do practical stuff.
I grew up in the GdR and was 17 when the wall came down.
