Workaways for a couple of months in Skiathos

Beschreibung

I was born in Singapore and grew up in the south of England. I moved to South Africa aged 22 and have been living here ever since. I love travelling and meeting new people and plan to spend about 3 months away from the South African winter (May to August) doing Workaways.

I am divorced and looking for some meaningful work to occupy me. I enjoy teaching English and completed a Celta course (Certificate in English Language Teaching Adults) end of 2019.
I am a great organizer, admin person, have good personal skills, and would be good at hospitality work. I am practical and can do painting/renovating etc.

I lead an active life, eat healthily, go to the gym and run regularly. I have lots of interests including gardening, dancing, hiking, playing saxaphone, and can sew really well.
I enjoy different cultural activities like visiting museums and seeing festivals and food markets, I read a lot of novels, and enjoy Netflix series. I am a self reliant, patient person and easy to get on with. I am triple covid vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine.

In 2022 I spent 3 months travelling in Italy and did Workaways at a farm in Parma looking after chickens, general cleaning, gardening, and cooking and helping with the dancing parties that were held there. I also looked after 5 cats and a garden in Taormina, Sicily right up in the hills in a very rural place. I spent 2.5 weeks working at a beautiful 5* guest house in Puglia (www.trulliestelle.it) preparing and serving breakfast, cleaning rooms and interacting with the guests.

In 2023 I again went to Italy and worked for a month at an English Language school near Venice helping the students with their oral English exams and marking Cambridge mock exams as well as teaching the little 2-6 year olds in the mornings. Another workaway involved painting a metal fence in Lago di Vico near Rome for an elderly couple. I sorted out a house for a guy in Livorno as a 'Tidying Consultant'. I spent time at a farm in Solignano (near Parma) and helped a lady for a few days at an Agriturismo bed and breakfast and one day we had 40 kids at the farm to teach them 'farm life'.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I have a business diploma and further studies in computer science. I am really good at administration and have good secretarial and organizational skills. I used to be a computer programmer and ran computer systems development projects in my past life and later worked in computer staff recruitment for permanent and contract placements.

I am the type of person who needs to keep learning. I completed a CELTA course at the end of 2019 in Johannesburg and enjoy English teaching. The course required over 8 hours of practical classroom teaching to Congolese refugees. I especially enjoyed the course and got great satisfaction from helping and teaching the students.

I love children and have been a home mom to my daughter and kind of aupair to my niece and nephew for 20 years, as my sister works full time. I have 5 grand children (from my husband's side). I can help with homework, aupairing, art and craft projects, and general child minding. I am used to running a home and see automatically all that needs doing so can be relied on to 'get the job done'!

Gardening is one of my passions and I grow my own vegetables at home and I have also done a few landscaping projects for friends. I have coordinated and supervised a few renovation projects at our house and at our holiday home in Cape Town including the interior decorating.

I like animals and have 2 dogs, 2 cats and 2 chickens who are part of our family and will be looked after by my ex husband. I don't have experience of farm animals but would be open to learning to care for them.

I love dancing and did some competitive ballroom and latin dancing for about 5 years. I like to play tennis, go to gym and generally keep active and fit. Currently I attend jazz dance classes twice a week. Also I like reading historical or crime novels and I started a bookclub with friends. I enjoy watching series on Netflix. I am generally an easy going person and get on with most people.

I am trying to eat as healthily and as much as possible from my garden. I am also very practical and quite good at basic house maintenance - not afraid to 'get my hands dirty'. I can use a drill, do general painting and decorating etc. Most of all I want to meet some new people and have some great experiences while enjoying new cultures and travelling.

I have been lucky enough to travel for holidays to lots of places in the world; some of my favourites being in Africa in the bush/game lodges. This is such a contrast to the cities of Europe, America and the Far East but I enjoy many kinds of holidays including the beach.
We have a holiday home at the coast in Cape town and get to spend time with our family there. Workaways offer different experiences each time; most of all I want to have fun and laugh.
