Hello, my name is Ethan! I am a 26 year old from the U.S.

I am a kind, positive guy, a good listener, and I love to learn new things and meet new people! I love a good deep conversation, a tasty meal and tend to think I have a good sense of humor ;)

I graduated college with an IT based degree and worked for four years as a business analyst in the steel industry. While it was good experience, I knew there was more to life than just the 9-5 office job. I wanted to explore more of what this wonderful earth, and its people, have to offer!

I think what truly motivates me, as well as brings me happiness, is the pursuit of bettering myself and those around me! I found life to be more meaningful when you get out of your comfort zone and continue to work on yourself, as there is always more room to grow! The journey, people, and experiences that come along with that pursuit, are what it is all about! Whether positive, or negative, these people and experiences are what help us grow in life. They are the reason I am the person I am today!

Also, since I enjoy learning new things, I believe I am becoming a bit of a jack of all trades, but master of none. I enjoy adding to that collection of knowledge, as well as sharing what I can!

Because of all of that, I love the concept of Workaway! It is the perfect way to get out of your comfort zone, meet new people, make new friends, learn new skills and experience new things!

Currently I only speak English. I took a Spanish class or two in high-school but don't really remember much, but that would probably be the best one for me to actually try to pickup and learn. I am definitely interested in learning another language though, but not too sure what! I would always be willing to pickup a bit from my host if they were willing and able. As far as teaching, I would be happy to help a host practice their English skills! I don't know how well of a teacher I would actually be though, so I cannot really offer that ability/skill. I guess I could always try, but definitely not my strong suit.

I do understand that workaway is not a vacation, as work is in the name! I also understand that life is not a vacation. You won’t get anywhere in life by just lounging around all day. I understand that to grow, and get things done, you need to work. I believe I was raised to have a pretty good work ethic, as I take pride in my work and like to see projects through to completion! I love a good finished product! I tend to be self-sufficient, depending on the project, but have learned from school and my job, that communication and collaboration are key!

I won't claim to be an expert at any one thing, as I feel I know a little bit about a lot of things, but I think I still have some good skills, knowledge and attitude that I can bring to the table. I believe my positive attitude and willingness to learn will be very beneficial in helping me accomplish most if not all projects that are proposed to me! And if the work involves a skill that I am new to, I will be eager and willing to learn from my host if they are gracious and willing enough to teach me!

With that said, some areas of skill that I wish to point out that can fall into a few different categories. One being a more manual labor, diy, hands on type of things. I am in fairly good shape, so I should be able to have the strength and stamina to keep up with most if not all projects. I have a background in working at a cemetery, of all places, for a few years. From that, a bit of groundskeeping experience, learning how to dig and set a level foundation for grave markers, operating dump trucks, 4x4 work vehicles, maintaining mower engines, etc. Growing up, my family had a garden and landscaping around our house, so plenty of yard work experience there. My father was a pretty handy guy, so some minor woodworking, house plumbing, house DIY kind of experience as well. My previous roommate bought a house, so I helped him with some demo and cleanup projects on the house. I also helped him with some woodwork/framing as well as painting around the house.

My father was always big into working on our vehicles. So I've done my fair share of working on cars. From the basics of oil changes, brakes, and tire rotations, to replacing a radiator, thermostats, alternators, headlight housings, starter motors, shocks and struts, etc. Nothing too crazy, but if it was reasonable enough to do at home, we would give it a shot.

My mother was always big into cooking for our family. We had a family of seven so a decent amount of people to cook for as well! I've picked up a few things about cooking from her over the years, and tend to cook all of my meals these days. I'm no chef, but I can cook the basics and maybe a bit more. I tend to do bulk foods for myself as well, so more of a meal prep kind of style of cooking. I don't mind cooking either, so if it is something I can help with, I would be happy to do so! Same with cleaning around the house. I may not be as eager lol, but I actually do have a bit of "OCD" as far as being cleanly, so I don't mind being on a good cleaning routine and living in a clean environment, as long as everyone else is willing to do so as well.

Then with my education and most recent job, I have some decent IT/IS experience/skills. This also includes workplace communication skills as well as the ability to work with the many different people you will encounter at a workplace! A basic definition of a business analyst, which is what I did, is to solve business problems with IT solutions. So I have good experience working with users who don't know anything about a particular application or systems, and helping them to learn how to use and navigate that application or system. I am also pretty familiar with the Microsoft office programs, as well as the Microsoft Windows operating system. I have experience using various online/on-site applications, as well as working with end users to work through various issues regarding those applications. I believe those might be the most useful skills that could translate to a Workaway experience as far as the IT stuff goes.

I am also interested in more creative projects as well. As a child I had a very active imagination and was more into art and drawing than I am these days. I wish to go back and explore that side of me, see if I can bring it back or not! I can't say I'm an artist, but I wouldn't shy away from any more creative work that may be needed by a host! Any experience is a way to learn and get better!

  • Was noch ...

As I've gotten older, I've become more interested in being fit and staying healthy. That mainly includes staying active and eating healthy, most of the time ;)

I enjoy getting outdoors and doing activities that keep me in shape, such as normal trail or mountain biking, hiking, walking, swimming, and going for the occasional run. I'm no body builder, but I enjoy going to the gym to workout. I also have done a little bit of at home boxing, nothing official though. As of late, I have been interested in learning Jiu Jitsu, so if anyone could teach or offer a class, that would be sweet! I am also interested in getting more into meditation and yoga. I have done some, but mainly just got my toes in the water. Would love to take a deeper dive at some point!

I enjoy cooking and trying new foods! I'm especially excited to do workaway for the food! I love music! Probably have over 30-40 playlists on spotify! Am definitely interested in learning what music others around the world like! I do like an occasional movie and day of relaxing. Going for a drive to see the scenery, etc. I also really do enjoy meeting new people and hearing what stories they have to share! So just sitting around and getting to know people is another big reason I want to do workaway!
