Hello :) We are are both big fans of Workaway, it was via this platform that we met 2 years ago whilst volunteering in Portugal where we have been since living.
In June, we will be traveling to Malaysia for a month to attend a friend's wedding. We thought that volunteering again would be a great way to connect with the culture and maybe to build things :) (which is what we both love doing).

I love being creative, making things and adapting stuff so I am looking to get involved in building/ creative projects! I am very happy to help either by designing or by doing the physical building work. I am a UK registered architect and in my job I mostly work on the renovation of old buildings; I like the process of giving a new life to buildings which, in turn, gives a new life to its inhabitance! Natural materials are my favourite to work with, they have a satisfying feel and think that they look more beautiful the older that they get. I am interested in traditional building methods and simple means of construction. Please see the link below to the architecture company that I have worked for in London (https://deroseesa.com). The reason for offering my help is because I would like to use my hands more as I spend most of my time working on a computer. I would also be interested in helping with a project that can be beneficial to a community or family.

My country of origin is Slovakia, since I moved away, almost two years ago, I am starting to appreciate my culture more. It naturally came through learning about cultures of others and seeing the beauty, uniqueness yet similarity of them all. Besides Slovak language I speak English which I have also taught as I have a C1 level certification. Interactions with my students made me realise the joy of socialising and learning about others. I am a singer-songwriter and I have always had a close relationship with creating. Cooking and experimenting in the kitchen is a lovely side hobby which I enjoy doing as well.

I have extensive experience in design, including buildings and interiors. My practical experience consists of DIY work and some woodwork but this fairly basic, however I am very interested to develop these skills! Last year I entered a short course which involved building a timber structure in the forest using only simple tools and no permanent fixings (see photos)! In general I am very proactive, enthusiastic and keen to do a good job!

What I enjoy the most is expressing myself creatively, whether it is through writing music, bookbinding, building shelving units, painting a mural or anything else I can get my hands on! :) I am a curious person and I love learning new skills whether it is something I can perfect or something completely new.

Was noch ...
Both of us love nature and spending time there recharges us after being too long in the city. In our spare time we would be interested in exploring the surrounding area and learning about different ways of life! We love to cook and think that having meal times together are a great opportunity to gather and connect as a group.
