We've just completed a great Polynesian adventure from Hawaii, to French Polynesia, the Cook Islands, and New Zealand. We're now jamming around Australia and looking for work.

Beschreibung

Hey! We’re Duncan and Abi, a friendly and resourceful couple who left our homes and careers in London in September 2024 to embrace a new way of life. We’re passionate about connecting with others through travel and cultural exchange, and we love working as a team to make a positive impact. After building successful careers in London—Abi as a Project Manager in Responsible Sourcing and Human Rights, and Duncan as a Partnerships Manager for a Brewery—we’re ready to leave the rat race, embrace new challenges, and share our versatile skill set while learning something new! We're keen to find a slower pace in warmer climates, and the chance to contribute meaningfully while learning about the world around us.

Duncan brings a decade of experience in hospitality, from managing bars and venues across the UK to working in marketing and brand partnerships for distilleries and breweries. Abi, beyond her background in Human Rights and Master’s degree in Ethics, has also worked in events operations in Westminster and has strong experience in hospitality from her youth and university years. We are both creative, talented fast learners who take on new challenges with enthusiasm and success.

Our Travel Ambitions:

- Building friendships and connections across cultures
- Learning about diverse ways of life and alternative living styles
- Contributing positively to the communities that welcome us through volunteering
- Minimising our impact on the places we visit through love, stewardship and respect for the land and ocean

What Makes Us Happy:

Duncan: Being outdoors and in the ocean, capturing beautiful photos on his cameras, being kind to and caring for others, and, of course, a cold beer after a hard day’s work.

Abi: Meeting new people and building friendships, creating and crafting, tinkering and repairing, reading fantasy novels, hiking and swimming, and conquering fears!

Hands-On Skills and Experience: Together, we bring extensive experience in customer-facing roles, sales, and hospitality. Abi has excelled in supervisory roles in stores, restaurants, cafes, and pubs, where she’s honed her skills in operations management and customer service. Duncan has years of experience as a bar and event manager, handling everything from guest relations to event coordination. Beyond our careers, we’re also hands-on, creative individuals—our recent DIY projects include creating etherial costumes (ask to see our Mushroom Hats and Fairy Wings) and upcycling furniture (our apartment was full of decked-out freebies). We’re happy to help with anything from guest assistance and customer care to household tasks, outdoor projects, and general upkeep.

Adaptability and Teamwork: As a couple, we’ve had the pleasure of tackling various projects and navigating diverse settings together. Our experiences have strengthened our adaptability, quick thinking, and teamwork skills. We love the challenge of immersing ourselves in new environments and are open to learning anything needed to contribute to your project. Working together, we offer a flexible, collaborative approach to any Workaway task.

Personal Qualities and Values: Enthusiastic, reliable, and genuinely interested in connecting with people from all walks of life, we’re committed to supporting hosts in any way we can. We value mutual respect and open communication and are always ready to lend a hand with a positive attitude.

Was noch ...

We’re both passionate about creating, whether through crafts, DIY, or learning new skills. We’re especially keen to dive deeper into carpentry and construction, building on our hands-on experience. We also have green thumbs and are big animal lovers so would love to learn more about sustainable farming and land stewardship through farm stays. With our strong people skills and love for sharing knowledge, we’re excited to explore opportunities as tour guides, helping inspire others through meaningful experiences. Additionally, we’re always up for a challenge and would love the chance to support and facilitate outdoor activities as we conquer new skills ourselves.

In short, we’re open to any challenge that comes our way and would be thrilled for the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute with you!
