Hi folks! My name is Desirae and I am so excited for a year of adventure! During the school year I teach kindergarten and early years music (which I LOVE), but after 8 years of teaching I'm taking a sabbatical year to recharge. My goal is to travel to various places on my bucket list and experience life as a local in those parts of the world. I look forward to making memories meeting new people and trying new things! I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, camping at the lake, hiking, reading, baking, crocheting, playing music... the list goes on and on; I love trying new things!

I currently have one "workaway" experience under my belt and I'm excited to add more!

As an early years teacher I'm used to interacting with and managing groups of kids, high-energy days and being adaptable and flexible. My days are never boring! I value integrity and communication, and consider myself a quick-learner and hard worker.

I grew up and still live outside of Manitoba's capital city in the heart of Canada, and my small city is bordered by many smaller farming communities; I have always been interested in spending time working on a farm, learning new skills and doing hands-on, honest work. Therefore, I'm hoping to spend time on farms or working with animals, so that will be my primary focus but I'm open to other ideas. I look forward to chatting and seeing if I'm a good fit for your operation!

Was könntest du arbeiten?

In terms of education, I have both a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degree. I have been teaching in the same K-12 school for the past 8 years, so I have a lot of experience with students/kids of all ages, staff and parents alike.

I have been employed as a waitress, a janitor, a barista, a greenhouse worker and an educational assistant before my teaching career. I have done quite a bit of volunteer work as well, from helping out on my friend's hobby farm (tending animals, butchering chickens, taking the horses out to ride etc) to preparing and serving food at my local soup kitchen to helping lay sod and doing some light landscaping jobs in different spots around town. I have done a lot of things!

I am always eager to learn and try new things! I get along with others and enjoy making new connections and memories along the way.

Was noch ...

I've been in my community's concert band for the past two years, playing the French horn, and I enjoy playing the piano as well. I also like to sing in choirs, given the chance! I like putting together costumes for various events (Halloween, school productions, just for fun etc), and I've been to a few Regency-era balls (I attended time-period appropriate dance classes specifically for those experiences). I've dabbled a bit in leather-working and woodwork, and I've helped put down shingles on a friend's roof. I don't think I can stress enough that I like to try new things! I'd much rather collect experiences and adventures than material things, you know?
