Hello! I'm Claudio, I grew up in the countryside of Florence.
I'm taking this chance on "workaway" to discover and realize more aspects of my nature. While I'm a reserved contemplative philosopher I think that concrete actions and experiences are what make us better, I'm happy when I see people's lives getting simple and light, so this is the kind of help I want to bring.
I am a big reader and I worked mostly as an artisan/decorator,
I love rivers, animals, books, music, folk stories, cinema and rich cuisine.
As a nature lover I am always looking for remote places far from the city to find quietness and peace.

Growing up in the countryside made me confident with the basic works that you may find in a farm or in a cultivated field like animal care, harvest etc...
I have a long experience as a carpenter and luthier in a laboratory where I designed, built and decorated many useful tools, mostly wooden with every common Italian wood,
I'm doing fine with metals, worked on many brass projects.
I am also learning with curiosity to solder analog electronic circuits.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Help a family with some home ...)

I chose this host's home in northern Belgium as one of the stops for my first workaway trip, starting with the best intentions.
In the first few days, the host barely wanted to talk to me about anything other than the negative experiences with previous guests including all the damage they caused her, this only happened during the first meals… read more together from which I was hastily dismissed because she needed time to be alone.
I thought that once we got more familiar with each other the tension would ease and in the meantime, I started to figure out how to visit cities which sent Tine #redacted text# and not to talk about her to a living soul as strange people looked for her and entered her house.
The host was unavailable and sparing with concentration, never consistent with anything we had decided together, often postponing my working hours because she didn't want me to carry them out without her supervision.
Every proposal or idea I made was rewarded with a #redacted text#, in my whole stay I don't think I worked more than 10 hours, in my whole stay I don't think I worked more than 10 hours.
As she gradually began to dedicate more time to me I noticed that he constantly seemed on the verge #redacted text#, sighing continuously he began to ask me for explanations on every single thing was doing and to correct it, there was no tool in the house that I was able to use well before she took it from me to finish the job, after a short while, the meals started to end with rapid-fire monologue submissions in which I received all sorts of inappropriate comments that I couldn't respond to without aggravating her mood.
I ended up reaching the same level of stress as her, I tried with good manners to make her understand that perhaps it would have been better to agree to interrupt the collaboration, but when one afternoon, completely out of the blue, she shouted at me a series of insults that ended with: "I hope you understand and I don't want to listen to you because it's not a good time", she ran away to lock herself in a room and came back to me after 5 minutes with a completely different mood, I understood that I couldn't do anything about it.
I found an alternative host at the last minute who I wanted to leave, out of respect, a margin of a few days to prepare.
In the meantime I worked in the attic with Tine who started sanding an old wooden plank with an electric scraper without giving me any protection for my eyes, I ended up with 5 splinters in one eye.
She refused to accompany me to the hospital, 15 minutes by car from the house because according to her I would have made her arrive tired at her son's birthday which would have been the following day, rabbled something about how scared she was of the police looking for her and denied that they and denied that they were splinters of wood asking me to state the same at the doctors.
I went at 5 in the morning to the hospital by bus where I had the operation, once I returned and confirmed the diagnosis to Tine, she became panicked and told me that she was in the attic too but if it only happened to me it's because I deserve it as I am "too stressed and arrogant" and asked me to leave immediately crying, which was very disrespectful to the other host who fortunately was willing to host me anyway in advance.
She accompanied me to a bus stop where I could have left, during this last ride #redacted text# even knowing that I had spent the whole night in the hospital, she tried to steal 20 euros from me in the goofiest way, which I was able to get back probably because she noticed I was recording the conversation with my phone.
At the end of my ten days there, the only person who approached her house was an elderly man who knocked to give her some vegetables.
Before leaving I would never have thought of giving less than one star in a review as guests should show gratitude for at least shelter and food, but the comment about my health and the attempted theft were beyond awful.
Diksmuide is a nice place and despite my situation, I got to know many nice people there, if you want to visit it I'm sure there are valid alternatives, look for them, don't run into this nightmare,
I really wish someone warned me before I got there.
If you're reading this while you are in a similar situation with this host, beat it without giving any explanation!

Very sorry to give this review. He basically stole 20 euro by threatening to call the police while he refused to get out of the car at the busstation. So honest review in support of all hosts, even it cracks my profile. How he accused instead of trying to communicate or compromise shows his true colors. #redacted text#
After I asked to leave a day… read more earlier than planned you behaved disrespectful. I explained why I couldn't bare any more situations. We where in a downword spiral so we could not keep any longer, with all respect, it was to much for us both and I walked on eggshells to long. So I was happy you had found a new host to stay with and I hoped we could end in a good way, but nO. I even brought you to the busstation. No thank you, no sorry. In that week I apologized for my mistakes in misunderstandings.
You immediately accused me instead of question yourself first, remember the moment at the backdoor when I got the 20 euro out of my pocket to gave back to you. (He lent me to buy his product at the pharmacy)
Why not check your pockets first? Cause I did. You actually betrayed yourself when I asked to look in your wallet and you said first it was not in, and, after I asked for me to look in your wallet you blocked, and than said you had more 20 euros in your wallet. I had to give 20 euro to get him out of my car to have my peace back. He knew I didn't have time or energy for that sort of games, I wouldn't sit hours in my car waiting/talking for police and stuff. I should of, to show how ridiculous that was. but I was exhausted and still much to prepare for my son's birthday that day. (We both had to catch up sleep from the night before taking care of a sudden eye-problem. ) Ask, beg and shout didn't make him move, only the money leaded him out, with a satisfied smile and the note "I recorded it all" as if he won a competition. Only then I understood why he didn't answer my questions in the car and he gave suggestive sentences for misleading results in his recording. And yes, I lost my temper! My attempt for conversation and try make a peaceful departure was impossible cause he had other intentions.

We where just not compatible and we both realized that . I am flexible go-with-the-flow person and his need for real structure and weekplan is difficult to give. Silence, animals and specified repetitive tasks could work, I think. That my story is subjective I am aware of so filter facts please. And I hope, Claudio, you can see that we both can learn, look inside, reflect and take steps to grow and heal. Thank you for the lesson. Karma Is.
