Hello! My name is Emily and I'll be in Bulgaria from May 2025. My first stop will be the Plovdiv area. I would like to get to know the country a bit better and see what it's like. Workaway is a great way to get to know people, so that's why I'm here. I'm mainly offering my language skills as exchange (more below). It would be great to stay with a family and help with improving their English or German.

I have lived in various European countries (Austria, United Kingdom and Canary Islands) and have also done some Workaways mainly in the hospitality sector. I am someone who's easy-going, respectful, and I enjoy meeting different people and can get along and talk with anyone. I also enjoy being by myself.

Translation is something I have worked in for many years, and I have also worked as writer and teaching people languages through talking and conversing (English and German). I'm native in German and fluent (C2) in English and will help grow your language skills in a natural way. What I find interesting about language and translation is the way many different countries and languages have the same sayings or similar phrases. I also like deconstructing words and surnames and finding out their origin. Also, I do enjoy wordplay and humorous puns.

Here's a bit more info about my professional and volunteer background:

I studied fashion journalism, worked as journalist, translator and photographer, gave English and German language conversation classes, worked at hostel receptions, helped growing a garden, built pathways, painted walls, decorated, organised an Easter egg hunt, led city walking tours, managed people and delegated tasks, photographed various events, took photos for hostels' websites, did live streams of events,...

Some of my qualities are being loyal and trustworthy, sticking to my word and being able to view things from other peoples' perspectives. I also pay attention to detail.

Where I volunteered:

At surf hostels and on a sailboat on Gran Canaria, Tenerife and on Fuerteventura, at a finca with a farm on Fuerteventura and at a yoga retreat on Lanzarote.

Was noch ...

I pay attention to what I put in my body/mind/consciousness and what I consume, starting from food and going to "cultural inputs" (media/songs/series, etc). So for example I don't eat any junk food or consume any junk online ;-)

If you have any children: I'm an older sister and mentally have always been like a "mini parent" to my brother and have also felt responsible for him. Growing up it was always in my mind to be a great role model for him. And when interacting with children I am very aware that they are extremely impressive and easily influenced and adapt my behaviour and words to that.

Also, I don't drink, smoke or do any drugs.

For a bit of an additional idea about me, here are some things I'd like to do in Bulgaria: I'd like to spend much time in nature, meet and get to know people, play some tribal drums (I've been wanting to play some for a while, maybe I'll find some there), get more creative again and experience the Nestinarstvo ritual.
