Hello everyone, my name is Carla!
I’m 19 years old and I live in a small village near Hanover, Germany. I just finished school with my „Abitur“ and now I’m ready for a new adventure :-)
Most of my time I spend with the horses. When I was 3 or 4 years old, I started horse riding and its my „happy place“. I love riding trough the fields and it makes me so happy. It makes me forget my worries and problems. I don’t own a horse of my own, but I care for two horses for a year now. I don’t take part in competitions, riding is my escape from my stressful everyday life.
I addition to horses, I also like every other kind of animal. I have two guinea pigs (Piet and Frieda). My aunt has a farm where I spend a lot of time when I was younger. So I’m familiar with working on farms and would be happy to be able to work on farms during my journey with Workaway.
I also really enjoy singing. I am part of a choir and I sing in a band. So music is also an important part of my life.
My family is very large with a lot of cousins and I really enjoy spending time with my whole family. We meet several times a year, so I’m a family person. In the past I already had babysitting jobs in the neighborhood and for my cousins. Taking care for kids is familiar to me and I like working with kids.
Several years ago I became a vegetarian. I just feel better in my body without eating any kind of meat but this is just my personal opinion. Otherwise I’m very uncomplicated.
A part of my family (aunts, uncles and cousins) actually live in Canada. My parents, my younger brother and I went to Canada last year to finally meet them. I addition we went on a road trip trough the west of the country. It was the best time of my life and I fell in love with the country, the people, the beautiful landscape and the way of living. I immediately knew that I have to come back and now I have the chance. I finished my school but I don’t know exactly what I want to do later in life. So its time for a new adventure and I’m so exited to meet new people, learn new things and to make memories that I will never forget.

I am familiar with the work and the tasks on a farm and I can take care for the animals. I can ride horses - I do horse riding for several years now, but only as a hobby and not for competitions or anything like this. I also worked with kids in the past, I did a few babysitting jobs.
Chores around and in the house are no problem. I am happy to be able to help wherever my help is needed. I enjoy learning new things and if I don’t know how to do something, I will just ask you how to do it. I will always do my best and I want to learn new skills.
So I’m relatively flexible when it comes to tasks and work.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Become a part of our farm ...)

I spent 3 weeks with Aimee and her animals and it was a wonderful time that I will never forget! If you love animals this is the place for you!
Each of their animals has its own character and story. And that's why the work is so much fun.
In the morning work began with feeding, changing water and cleaning the enclosures. And of course lots of… read more cuddling with the animals. The work didn't feel like work because it was always a lot of fun. In addition to working with the animals, we also worked on projects like a new lock for the pigs' gate and cleaning out the shed. I learned so many new things.
I miss cuddling with Baby and Buddy in the stable, going horseback riding with Bouche, playing with the goats, teaching the pigs tricks and playing in the snow with Odin and Yeti.
But the chickens, the roosters, the geese, the ducks and the Muscovys are particularly dear to my heart. Every morning Blue greeted me at the gate with his cute hiss and kept me company while I worked. Luis the goose was always very happy when I gave him fresh hay and the other ducks always enjoyed their bath in the morning. My favorite rooster, Sarge, can be a bad boy at times, but he also enjoys attention. Linden and the other chickens were always very grateful when I brought them snacks. I miss them all very much.
Willa, the cutest cat ever, often slept in my room and I miss my little roommate very much, even though Willa is an early riser and liked to get up at 5:30.
Every animal is unique and that is what makes this place so special.
Aimee is the best host you could ever imagine. Her love for animals is so inspiring and she will do anything for her animals. Aimee and I did a lot of vet stuff together like checking on the chickens, giving lice treatment, hoof trimming, cleaning Stiorra and she taught me a lot for which I am very grateful. I want to become a veterinarian and thanks to Aimee I was able to gain some experience.
Aimee enjoys sharing her knowledge with others and is always open to questions. She is funny, caring and has a big heart for all animals and people. She picked us up from hockey games at night, we went to a Christmas party together and always tried to show us the area around Kretova. We cooked together in the evenings and played games. And always laughed a lot together. I couldn't have asked for a better host than Aimee!
Our group was amazing. Chiara, Eileen and Henrike, I miss you very much too! After work we played Wii, baked, went horseback riding together, went to hockey games, watched movies and cuddled with the animals outside in the snow. Even though we've only had 3 weeks together, it feels like we've known each other forever.
My time went by far too quickly and I wish I could have stayed longer. But I'll definitely be back! With this place I have found a place that is like a second home for me and I have made friends for life. I can't wait to come back! It was very difficult for me to say goodbye, but it's not a forever goodbye.
I can't recommend it enough! If I could give more than 5 stars I would!
This is a paradise for animals and for people who love animals. Thanks Aimee for everything!
