When I was 10, i've told my mother that wanted life being a treasure hunt.
I am 21 now and I feel like i'm ready to start this hunt!

My name is Baptiste! I'm from France, living near from Paris! After 4 years of studying english, japanese and cooking, I feel like my time has come to discover the world.
If I could describe myself in 1 word it could be: Curiosity. I want to gather all the knowledge I can and travelling is the key in my opinion.

Happiness come from people that you met. I would like to share time with my fellow humans, no matter their language or culture.

I started learn english through video games. I think learning a new language should come from a pleasant activity, that's why I always try to mix this language learning with a funny activity related to one of my student hobby. I started to learn japanese by myself but I disliked how university taught it, that's why, when I meet people that ask me to teach them english or french, I try to put some humanity and goodwill. I'm very interested about learning new languages but also teaching mine!

Beside all those hard skills, I'm also confortable to work with kids and teach them things such as french. I've help in the past some student at Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies during their french study session.
I'm also a very curious and dedicated person so I can learn fast things that I don't master. I'm very versatile.

I'm a huge board/card game enjoyer. My cellar is full of board game to be honest!
I like taking walk or going for very hard trek. I like to challenge myself!
I'm a huge music enjoyer, i play a bit of piano! I also play chess (but i'm terrible)

When I studied abroad, My americans classmates used to name me "Yesman" because I was always ok for any activities :D !

I really had a wonderful experience here! Hazuki is very friendly and take care of all of her guests. You will have a bed in the dorm, rice, pasta and everything you need for your daily life here. As you are in the center of Hiroshima, you'll always find something to do during your free time.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (A place to experience ...)

I stayed for around 3 months here, from August to November 2023. First I would like to say that your experience will change a lot according in which season you arrive and stay. Because I was across summer and falls, I experienced differents climates and different types of work here. So please be aware of that and bring the right clothes! Awa… read more and Tokushima prefecture is a very calm place, so if you want to have a "crazy japan" experience, it's definitly not the place to be.

I'll start first with the main point: work. The tasks at the farm is always easy. Easy in the sense that everybody, whatever their condition or background can do. However, keep in mind that it's farm work so sometimes you can be exhausted by weeding, cutting wood or prepare the soil (depending on the season you come). The japanese staff is very friendly and always try their best to explain why and how to proceed in every work you are involved. So no worries if you don't speak japanese at all (even if I strongly recommand to learn at least some basics for daily life or just to have a casual conversation with the staff here).

Once your tasks are done (5 hours a day, 5 days a week), you get your lunch prepared by a group of 3 workawayers who left the fields earlier in order to prepare for everyone a lunch. The work end around 11-12 am (depending on the season) and then you have your full noon off! You also have your weekend off so you are free to travel on Shikoku on weekends or go back to Osaka to party all night. Sometimes, members of japanese staff (Hide and Keisuke in my case) can invite you to do some activities during weekends such as fishing, hiking, camping or just discover some restaurant.

In my second point, because I been helping in this team for almost 2 months of my stay, I would like to talk about the lunch and kitchen staff. If ever you have to take part of this team, do your best and have fun! Because of my culinary background and knowledge, I been the "chef" (I hate this word) here, in charge to establish a weekly menue and taking care of groceries. So this task is sometimes exhausting and can be stressful for those who never worked in a restaurant before. But it's also a great way to share with the other workawayers your culture and traditional cuisine. The kitchen management change a lot according to who is cooking, so if you stay for a long time you can maybe experience a decreasing of food quality (wasn't my case when I left the kitchen staff or before I join it. Just saying it in case you stay for a long time). Finally I left the kitchen staff 3 weeks before the end of my stay to let other people get their chance to cook and also because i became less interested into cooking vegan meal everyday. It's a very important thing because you will encounter many cultures and people with dietary restrictions which lead you to cook vegan or vegetarian 99% of the time. Something very challenging for me because of my culinary and restaurant experience. To conclude with the kitchen and food part, just remember that you live in community so you have to accept people differences and deal with it (even if it include to not use veal stock or heavy cream T_T)

Last point and not the less; As I said you will live in community, encounter people who are very different in every point (age, nationality, hobbies, dreams, etc...)! And it's one of the best things here cause you will learn so much about everybody's culture and meet some wonderful people. However, like every community life (and more if you stay for a long time) people are leaving and new ones come so the global mood can change and sometimes you will feel that you don't match with that guy or that girl, that you will not become close friend. And it's totally fine! Just keep in mind that everyone is different, every culture is different and you have to live everyday with people who are totally different of you and that's the reason why your experience here is great.
To conclude, I would like to thank Hide, Gakuto, Keisuke and Naoki who been with me for this 3 months. A very kind and funny japanese staff who are always there to help you and spend time with you even outside work time! Even if sometimes the tasks are hard, they are always there to make sure that everything is fine for everybody and let you take a day off if you are sick or injuried! I would like also to thank Hiroji to let people from all over the world discover farm work and regenerative culture here in Japan. And finally want to thank all the workawayers I've met here. I will not say all their name but it was a pleasure to meet you and cook for you guys.
