Laurie is a lovely young woman; mature, warm, funny, conscientious and intelligent. She was easy to have around and fitted into our household quickly. Often she would help me with dinner preparation. Laurie stayed with our family for a week, living at my mother's place but working at both households. She did a lot of work in the garden, pruning and weeding mainly. She listened attentively, asked intelligent questions and followed instructions very well. Her weeding is thorough and she got quite a lot done in the time she had. She also helped me with cleaning : dusting vacuuming, mopping etc. paying good attention to detail.
Laurie is a delight to have around and I would definitely recommend her to any prospective hosts.

I had the luck of staying at Lorna's place, Carolyn's mother, a 93 years old woman still full of creativity and joy of living (and with a smorgasbord of stories too). I had the luck of being served amazing food for each and every meal (what an incredible cook you are, Carolyn!). I had the luck of being trusted from the very first day so as to arrange my own schedule, which I always find incredibly comfortable. I had, all in all, the luck of meeting this outstandingly kind family.
Thank you so much for all your truly appreciated help.

Zsanette came to stay with my mother while we went on holiday. It was very reassuring knowing that Zsanette was there doing such a great job. I would recommend her very highly to any prospective host. Thank you Zsanette. I only wish i had had more time with you.

Annie and Mark had been workawayers at my mother's property in the North Island 3 years ago and just by chance they recognised her from my profile. It was with great pleasure that they were reunited with Mum and her dog Mandy in her new home here in Nelson. Annie did the weeding and they both worked together on dog-proofing Mum's front garden. Annie's a great cook and is also very handy when it comes to ironing and making beds. Both are quick to check with me if there is any uncertainty over what needs doing. They are hard workers and were great at seeing things that needed doing. We enjoyed their company very much and the lively discussions over a glass or two of wine and a good meal! Annie and Mark seem to make friends where ever they go and our place was no exception.

We had a wonderfull week with Carolyn and Richard and stayed next door with her mother Lorna in her house. They are the kindest, nicest people who welcomed us into their homes. We went swimming after work and on dog walks and enjoyed spending time with them. The work was mainly in their gardens, pruning and weeding with some tree works. Thanks for

Vom Host für Workawayer (Patrick)
We were Patrick's first Workaway experience shortly after he had arrived in the country. He was with us for about two weeks, with a break in the middle to hike the Abel Tasman. He stayed in my mother's house but he spent time in both households for meals and socialising. I would describe Patrick as a kind, honest and gentle person with strong

He loves games, just like I do so we enjoyed teaching each other a new card game. He also enjoyed accompanying me on trips to the Farmers Market. He is an early riser and would start the day at 8.00 am and work through to lunchtime. Patrick learned some new skills while he was with us such as stacking firewood and mowing the lawns with a petrol mower. He gained some knowledge of weeds and plants but will need supervision in the garden until he is sure of himself. He trimmed our hedge, cleaned the car and cleaned the bikes beautifully. He cooked some lovely meals and helped with meal preparation. He taught us how to adapt our vegetarian meals for a vegan diet which was quite a bit easier than I had thought it would be. He was wonderful with my mother, and made a real effort to get to know her and do thoughtful things for her. He loves animals and was great with Mandy and Mia, the two dogs.
Patrick made great use of his free time, contacting fellow rock climbers, going to musical events and biking off to explore the region. He was always very polite and completed tasks willingly. We wish him all the best.

Nelson was my first stop in my year abroad in New Zealand, and I could not have found a better Work Away to help me ease into being by myself in a foreign country! Carolyn and Richard were more than willing to pick me up at the airport, and we went on a short hike along the beach with the cute dogs Mia and Mandy afterwards. When I got back to
… read more their home I also met Carolyn's mum Lorna, who is the sweetest old lady, and a delight to be around. I was able to relax my first day there, they let me take a day off because I had been traveling, and we got to watch the NZ rugby game on the TV. I stayed with them a total of two weeks.
Once I got started working the next day, it was a fairly simple routine. I would usually start work around 8am and work through midday, some days we would have a tea break midway through, and some I would be done around noon. Carolyn was also very accomodating and let me work the afternoon on two of the days when I wanted to do something in the morning. The work was varied, but always fair. I ended up doing some weeding in both Carolyn and Lorna's beautiful gardens, stacking wood in their carports in preparation for the winter, cleaning the cars/bikes/windows, trimming the hedges and generally helping out around the house and B&B. When I was done with work I was able to explore the area surrounding Nelson on the bike Richard let me borrow. They gave me great recommendations on places to hike and bike, and during my time there I really got a feel for the city of Nelson!
Throughout the whole experience, Carolyn was extremely accomodating, and I felt like part of the family. She provided special foods that catered to my vegan diet and was always willing to adjust her cooking for me. We worked well together in the kitchen and traded off cooking and cleaning duties, and I ate and made some delicious dishes from our families recipe books. We played card games, had deep conversations, and shared much of our lives and culture with each other. I even got to watch the complete Lord of the Rings set (Extended Version), which I had never seen before! All in all I loved my experience living with Lorna and working for Carolyn and Richard, and would recommend it to any other Work Awayers who are wanting to see the Nelson area.Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

The work didn't feel like work at all to me. I got the chance to help in their vegetable garden and did some small cleaning projects around the house. I also helped Carolyn's mum (with whom I stayed) unpack some of her boxes and do some weeding in her garden.
It truly was an honour to meet this family and I can only recommend them as hosts to anyone who enjoys working around the house and garden.
