Beschreibung
We are an energetic retired couple living off grid in rural Manitoba, determined to keep our carbon footprint to a minimum. We use solar energy for our electrical needs and rainwater for washing. We have an organic garden and full woodworking shop. We are situated on a private lake perfect for canoeing or kayaking. We live on a quarter section of land (160 acres) which is mostly bush and lake. There is an abundance of wildlife around including deer, moose, beavers and migratory birds. We have a number of hiking trails through the property.
We built an energy efficient home but still have a few projects to complete, mostly gardening, landscaping and trail work.
We have been vegetarian for 40 years and vegan for over 9 years.
We enjoy playing and singing music and have a keyboard and several guitars for all of us to play. We try to practice yoga regularly and do a little meditation and we still marvel at being immersed in nature.Arten von Hilfe und Lernmöglichkeiten

Travelers will experience and learn about living off grid, using solar energy, using rainwater as the primary source of water supply, and building with raw materials. We have a large organic garden and greenhouse. We practice regenerative/ permaculture growing techniques to provide food for us, the birds and bees and for the soil.
When we developed the property, our goal was to live as lightly on the land as possible, reducing our carbon footprint and embracing sustainable living principles. If this is something that interests you for your future plans, this will be an ideal property to live the experience, learning what works and what doesn't and benefit from the knowledge that we have gained over the years.Arbeit
Help with day to day activities that are required in living on and maintaining an off grid property. This will include trail work, cutting, splitting and stacking wood. All aspects of growing organic fruits, herbs and vegetables in a garden and in a greenhouse. Operation of an outdoor clay oven. Operation and maintenance of a solar powered system. Harvesting, preserving and storage of organic fruits and vegetables (late summer and early fall). MOST IMPORTANTLY WE NEED HELP IN PREPARATION AND COOKING OF PLANT BASED MEALS. YOU BEING PLANT BASED OR VEGAN WOULD BE IMPORTANT TO US.

We live in picturesque rural Manitoba, approximately 30 minutes from Riding Mountain National Park which offers horseback riding, nature trails, and a beautiful lake. We are 10 minutes from the small town of Sandy Lake which has swimming, boating, restaurant, bar, golf course, grocery store and a museum. Sandy Lake is also located right on the Cross Canada trail. Lake Audy, about 30 minutes away, has an enclosure where bison can be seen roaming free in their natural habitat. Our own property offers hiking trails and a lake, guests will have access to a canoe, kayaks and bikes. Possibilities exist to use our vehicle, if necessary. We do not allow smoking on the property. We have a dog and cat, both very friendly and both live in the house, so no allergies please.
We are rather secluded, so best suited for those who want a retreat like atmosphere.
We are willing to pick you up at the Winnipeg or Brandon Airport, or bus terminals and return you there after your stay.Etwas mehr Information

I took the ViaRail from Vancouver to Rivers. It had 15 hours late. So Ken drove all the way from his place to the station and spend the night in the parking lot waiting for me!
