I know we don't have many reviews, but we are currently active and looking for fun helpers!
Our farm is in Preston, about 20 minutes inland from Ulverstone in NW Tasmania. We run a 2 hectare market garden, and sell our produce at the Cradle Coast Farmers Market in Ulverstone, and Harvest Market in Launceston, every weekend. We also supply fresh vegetables to local shops and restaurants.
Our farm is run on biological principles, and we employ a range of methods for seeding, weeding, and harvesting, using both hand and mechanical methods. Practically, this means we do not use fungicides, insecticides, harsh fertilizers or most herbicides. This means sometimes we grow a cabbage with an insect hole in the leaf, but we can live with that!!
We are not certified organic, biodynamic or permaculture, however we do love lots of their ideas and principles and mix them with science, practicality and precision farming methods to create a system with soil health being a primary objective.
We love providing fresh, healthy, vegetables to our local community, and showcasing new and interesting vegetables that people may not have eaten before.

We love having people from all around the world come and stay with us. We enjoy getting to know people from other cultures, our favourite activity being that everyone shares a traditional meal from their own country. In return you get a real and up close look at our local community. We make sure you are included in local parties and festivals, and family events.
The main tasks will be planting, picking and packing vegetables for the local farmers markets. There will also be the opportunity to attend the farmers markets and help sell to the local community.
Everyone pitches in to help with general upkeep of the property, cleaning and cooking meals.
We always have building and renovation jobs on the go for people who are interested.
The list of opportunities to help will vary depending on your interests and skill level, but could range from making beer, berry picking, tree planting, painting, sawmilling and pruning.
The farm is centred around the the old Preston Primary School. We live in the classrooms of the old school and have a large rambling house with a number of outbuildings. There is lots of space, with 3 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, and 2 lounge areas with fireplaces. We have a number of different room options, some double rooms, and a 4 bed bunk room. Where you sleep will usually depend on availability when you arrive. You will have access to a separate bathroom and kitchen facilities and lounge area and we share a laundry.
There are lots of interesting and fun activities to do on your day off and in free time during the week, including caves, canyons, waterfalls, river swimming and other tourist activities.
The closest town is 20 minutes away, and we go there regularly, and can arrange for you to do any shopping that you need to do. We have vehicles available for use on days off and longer trips away.
Preferably long term stay (minimum 2 weeks), no smoking in the property.
Get in touch if you have any questions.
We would love you to be part of our fun vegetable crew!!
