Hello, We particularly welcome couples or friends (2 or 3) travelling together, or we try to get volunteers to come at the same time (which is difficult). If you have your own van that is O.K. too.

We care for our olive trees and we will be planting vegetables and cutting areas of fire risk, We will be harvesting olives early November, so we need your help please. We have grown many trees from seed and fruit stones and for these we made hugel holes! . Fascinated? Read.... The Art and Science of Making a Hugelkultur Bed ...
    ...
Used for centuries in Eastern Europe and Germany, hugelkultur (in German hugelkultur translates roughly as “mound culture”) is a gardening and farming technique whereby woody debris (fallen branches and/or logs) are used as a resource.

Alozaina is famed for its olives and mountain walks in the Biosphere Reserve, now a National Park. You could give a hand with a variety of tasks; dry land management, small maintenance tasks, herbal wisdom, planting veggie patch, and a few domestic chores. We look forward to you contacting us soon. We can give you our email and phone number after you have made first contact.

We offer simple accommodation and basic vegetarian food in exchange for your volunteer work involvement in our on-going eco-living experience and organic growing. This is normally for five hours a day, five days a week. The hours and days are flexible depending on the time of year and weather conditions. In your personal time there is freedom to enjoy the sunshine, use the yoga deck, our plunge pool, and the coolness of the meditation sanctuary or just laze in the hammocks under the pine trees in the 'place of the wind', just right for siestas! The village is 3km away down a mountain track and you will be able to pick up holiday Spanish from the locals or use the village swimming pool (summer only). There are buses to the coast or inland attractions.

Usually the minimum stay is two weeks, but we are sometimes seeking some longer-term helpers. If you wish to stay longer than 2 weeks, we reserve the right to discuss and agree this with you toward the end of your second week with fortnightly reviews thereafter.

Our ecological house nestles among pine trees, huge rocks and red earth on the mountainside above a typical white Andalucian village. There are stunning views in every direction. The house demonstrates and incorporates a number of environmental features, including independent water supply from rainwater harvesting and borehole, solar heated water and solar generated electricity.

It is essential that you speak some English as we are from the U.K.. You need to be physically fit and able to adjust to changing needs. You will be asked to assist with your own food preparation/washing up, weekly cleaning and sometimes painting. This is more than just an alternative holiday as you will learn some eco skills and plant wisdom and hopefully have a life-enriching experience here.
Projects that you may become involved with could include:
Vegetable growing on 'dry' land (based on organic and permaculture principles). Olive tree management. Olive harvest in November. Water conservation. Woodland fire protection management. Forest paths, stone work. Herb garden.

    VENUE AND ACCOMMODATION;
We provide simple accommodation in clean caravan or cabin, with breathtaking views to Sierra and sea. We have wi-fi you can use if you bring your own device. Sometimes you will eat with us (basic vegetarian local produce, rice, pulses, pasta, with occasional optional eggs or cheese), or you will be provided with food to prepare in your own small outside kitchen. We do not supply nuts or specialist vegetarian foods.

Shower and eco-toilet are near to accommodation; the hot water is subject to sun, usually not a problem! For safety reasons we do not take children or young persons under 18 years. For the same reason, sorry no dogs or other pets. We have to insist that there are no fires under any circumstances, as the whole mountainside is a high fire risk for most of the year. Smoking is not permitted in accommodation or house, only designated area. We do not encourage excessive consumption of alcohol or use of recreational drugs.

We are not a business of any kind and don't take paying guests. Tierra Roja Casa Ecologica is a family unit and we look after our land together. We are not selling our produce and our ethos is to exchange or give away any surplus produce..........for example, exchanging spinach for beetroot and later pumpkins for avocados.

    Your Hosts:
Alloa Patricia is a committed environmentalist. She has many years experience of hosting volunteers and WWOOFERS both in UK and Spain. Patricia is a Findhorn Foundation (eco-spiritual Community in Scotland), Resource Person for Spain. Three family members also live here, plus friendly cats and dogs.

    Booking procedures:
If you would like to visit, email us with some information about yourself, your age, your interest or experience in sustainable living, organics or permaculture and your skills. Its always nice to see your photo on your listing. Under no circumstances will we accept visitors who have not made prior arrangements with us.
We are 1 hour by bus from Malaga city. The nearest airport is Malaga. We can advise on bus times and car hire. (note; last bus from Malaga city is around 5pm so please bear this in mind when booking flights) After we have confirmed your stay we will send you some travel information. We will need to know your time of arrival in the village so that we can meet you, as we have to take you the last 3km to the house.

Looking forward to welcoming you to this nature paradise.
    Alloa Patricia.

You will learn that there are no 'weeds' as most plants have a value, many of them being medicinal. If interested in natural medicine Patricia will explain how some of the herbs are used. You will be staying within an artistic and creative natural environment with stunning views, walks and hikes, and eagles soaring above you. It is near to a typical Andaluz white pueblo that has many traditions and a seemingly constant programme of fiestas and events, and a strong flamenco tradition. You can get a bus (1 hour) to the cultural cities of Malaga or Ronda. You can practice your Andaluz Spanish - more of a challenge than castellano! And sample our wines, famous olives, and local foods. There is a wide community of like-minded people around who get together regularly for seasonal events, celebrations, music.
