  We’re a young family living in a small rural eco-village in Hawke’s Bay. We moved here about two years ago and are creating our own little homestead while actively involved in the wider community and regenerative projects around us.
  
  We live in a tiny home and have recently welcomed our new baby, Clara, so life is full, joyful and a little chaotic in the best way. We’re looking for kind, flexible people who would enjoy staying with us for a few days, helping with everyday family life and around the garden, while experiencing genuine rural New Zealand, eco-village and regenerative living.
  
  Our homestead is still very much a work in progress, so there’s always something useful to do. Help might include preparing simple meals, light household tasks, gentle support with the baby, establishing our organic garden (planting, weeding, mulching and building new beds), and general outdoor tasks.
  
  Sean works at a well-known heritage seed and regenerative agriculture centre as the Forest Garden and Nursery Manager, six hours a day, Monday to Friday, and is home for lunches and breaks (its on the same property). Workawayers who are interested can sometimes join him and get hands-on experience with plants, propagation, nursery work and the wider regenerative projects happening in the community. Because public visits are limited, this is a rare chance to get a private, behind-the-scenes look at their gardens, nursery and regenerative work, something most people can’t easily access.
  
  You’ll have your own comfortable, warm and dry motorhome and become part of our family and community for a few days. We enjoy sharing food, skills, stories and ideas, and we’re happy to show you a quieter side of rural New Zealand.
  
  We’re about 25 minutes from Wairoa, surrounded by bush and nature, with a stream nearby and a larger river within walking distance. Having your own vehicle is best to get to us.
  
  We’re initially looking for stays of 3–5 days (a low-pressure way for everyone to see if it feels right), with longer stays possible if it works well. We’re a mostly alcohol- and drug-free household, eat mostly organic food, and value a clean, healthy and respectful environment.

  Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

  For us, the main purpose of hosting is cultural exchange and sharing everyday life, rather than simply exchanging accommodation for work.
  
  Workawayers will have the opportunity to experience life in a small rural New Zealand eco-village, spend time with our family and community, and learn about organic gardening, heritage plants, food forests, regenerative growing and simple off-grid living. Sean can sometimes take interested Workawayers to the village nursery, where they can learn about propagation, plant care and the wider regenerative projects happening in the community.
  
  We enjoy sharing meals, cooking and preserving food, including sourdough, sauerkraut, preserves and cheese, and we’re always interested in learning new recipes and techniques from the people who stay with us.
  
  Delphy is originally from Chile and speaks fluent Spanish, while Sean is originally from South Africa. We enjoy learning about different cultures, languages, food, music and ways of life. Spanish-speaking Workawayers are especially welcome, as Spanish is an important part of our family life and we are raising Clara bilingually.
  
  We hope that people who stay with us will teach us things too, whether that's a skill, recipe, growing technique, language, creative practice or something from their own culture and experience. We’ll spend time together, share tasks and learn from each other rather than simply giving Workawayers a list of jobs to complete.

  Arbeit

  We’re looking for someone happy to share in a mix of family life, gardening and practical activities. The exact balance will depend on your interests and what we’re doing while you’re here.
  
  There may be some light help with family life, preparing meals, dishes and household tasks, as well as gardening, planting, weeding, mulching and establishing new organic garden beds. Other activities might include making firewood, helping with our outdoor projects and learning about how we manage our small homestead.
  
  Sean works in the village nursery six hours a day Monday to Friday and is home for lunches and breaks. You’re welcome to join him there sometimes if you’re interested in learning about plants, propagation, forest gardens and the community’s regenerative projects.
  
  We’ll share the activities with you and work out each day together, so there is a good balance between helping out, learning new things and enjoying time together. We’re also interested in learning from you, whether that’s a skill, recipe, growing technique, language or something from your own culture and experience.

  English is our main language at home, and Delphy also speaks fluent Spanish. She is originally from Chile, while I’m originally from South Africa and speak English. We’re raising Clara to speak both Spanish and English, so Spanish is an important part of our family life. Delphy speaks Spanish with her, and we’d love for her to grow up hearing and using both languages naturally. We’re very happy to welcome Spanish-speaking Workawayers, whether you’re a native speaker or simply enjoy speaking Spanish. It would be a great opportunity for Clara to hear more Spanish and for us to share language and culture with each other. We also enjoy learning a few words and phrases from other languages, so if you speak another language, we’d love to learn some from you too!

  Unterkunft

  We offer a comfortable, warm and dry motorhome parked near our home, giving you your own private space while still being close enough to be part of family life.
  
  The motorhome has a comfortable sleeping area and a small kitchen area where you can make tea, coffee and snacks. There’s also a small toilet in the motorhome for nighttime use. For number twos, we use a separate composting toilet nearby.
  
  The motorhome is well set up for all seasons, with a diesel heater for keeping it warm and an electric blanket for those colder nights. We provide bedding and the basics you’ll need for your stay.
  
  You’ll have access to our bathroom and shower near the tiny home, as well as shared laundry facilities.
  
  You’re welcome to join us for meals, but if you prefer to cook some meals or eat independently, that’s completely fine too. We’ll provide food for shared meals during your stay.
  
  The setting is peaceful and rural, with bush, a small stream a few minutes away and a larger river within walking distance. It’s a simple but comfortable place to stay if you enjoy nature, quiet surroundings and a slower pace of life.There are also plenty of places around the village and property to sit, relax and enjoy the surroundings.
  
  The motorhome is best suited to one person or a couple who are comfortable sharing the space, and it can also accommodate a small child. Also, we have good spots where you can pitch a tent.

  There are lots of other things happening around our home and community, so depending on your interests there may be opportunities to share and learn skills beyond the main work.
  
  We’re interested in dance, creativity and art therapy, and enjoy exploring different ways of bringing creativity into everyday life. We also make and preserve food, including preserves, sourdough bread, sauerkraut and cheese, and we’re happy to share what we know and learn from you too.
  
  We’re around 25 minutes from Wairoa, so having your own car is definitely an advantage. We only have one vehicle, which is the motorhome you’ll be staying in, and we’ll occasionally need to use it ourselves to go into town. You’ll therefore have more freedom to explore the area if you have your own transport.
  
  At the same time, we’re far enough out to enjoy a peaceful rural setting surrounded by nature. If you have your own creative projects, skills or interests, there’s plenty of space to bring them with you.

  We don’t provide Wi-Fi, but mobile data works reasonably well at our place. I generally get around 10 Mbps on my phone, although this will depend on your mobile provider and plan. If you need reliable internet for working online, we recommend bringing your own mobile data or hotspot.
