Beschreibung
We are an alternative learning community located in the San Agustín de Cajas district of Huancayo, in the heart of the central Andes of Peru. Our name comes from Quechua and means freedom, a concept that guides our educational project. We understand education as a living process, where children learn by connecting with their natural, cultural, and social environment, and with the support of their teachers and families.
Our educational approach is based on freedom, autonomy, and responsibility. We use Project-Based Learning (PBL) as our main pedagogical strategy to foster children's genuine interests, curiosity, reflection, and scientific thinking. We develop an educational experience that connects the emotional, cognitive, physical, and community dimensions.
The community has about ten students divided into two groups by age. They are supported by teachers Katherine and Gabriela, Lucía (the Flavor Lab teacher), and Héctor (the Research Projects teacher). They are also parents to some of the children in the community. We are deeply connected to Andean culture and the local territory. We value close contact with nature, community life, and respect for the natural rhythms of childhood. We believe in a vibrant form of intercultural education, where encounters between people of different ages, experiences, and countries enrich learning. Therefore, the presence of international volunteers is especially meaningful to us, as it naturally fosters a rich human and cultural exchange.
We expect volunteers to actively participate in community life, supporting educational and community activities, helping to care for shared spaces, and contributing their knowledge, languages, perspectives, and life experiences as part of a mutual exchange.
In return, we offer an authentic immersion experience in an alternative educational community, the opportunity to discover life in the Peruvian Andes, share daily life with local families, and be part of a project with strong social and human significance. It is a space to learn, share, and build together through respect, attentive listening, and collaboration. If you wish to contribute to a transformative educational project while discovering the central Andes of Peru, we warmly welcome you.

Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten
During their stay, volunteers will have the opportunity to experience a rich and meaningful cultural exchange closely connected to the territory and daily life of the community. Through the field trips and learning outings organized for the children, volunteers will visit some of the most important places in the Mantaro Valley related to its historical, archaeological, touristic, and ecological heritage.
These experiences allow volunteers to learn about local history, Andean culture, and the natural environment in an experiential and contextual way, alongside children, families, and community members. Field trips may include visits to archaeological sites, rural communities, natural landscapes, and culturally significant locations in the region.
In addition, volunteers will share daily life with the host families and the community, where they will have the opportunity to taste traditional local dishes and learn about customs, traditions, and ways of life expressed in some of the main festivities of the Mantaro Valley. This cultural exchange is guided by the hosts, who share their knowledge, stories, and traditions with respect and from an intercultural perspective.

Arbeit
Volunteers are invited to share their language, skills, and life experiences within a living alternative educational community. One of the main areas of support is teaching English to children between 6 and 12 years old through an active and creative approach. English is not taught in a traditional classroom setting, but through the accompaniment and development of educational, artistic, and playful activities that encourage participation, curiosity, and meaningful learning.
Volunteers also collaborate in creative workshops, community projects, and cultural activities, as well as accompany children during field trips and outdoor learning experiences. These outings involve processes of exploration and inquiry in natural environments, such as nearby landscapes, rural areas, and natural spaces, where learning emerges through direct contact with nature and the territory.
In addition, volunteers take part in the daily life of the community by supporting everyday tasks and helping care for shared spaces. We deeply value the exchange of knowledge, languages, perspectives, and life experiences as a central element of community life, mutual learning, and intercultural connection.
