We are Megan, John and River

We warmly welcome you to our home situated within an ecovillage on the Central Coast just 1.5hrs north of Sydney.

    Update:
Unless you have carpentry skills you must be 25 to apply as I need someone who can drive me to my mother's house as she is in need of my care sometimes.
Thankyou for not applying if this isn't you, as I want to take you all but I just can't:)
    Best wishes.

    A little about us...
John (John Seed) works in the conservation of nature and founded the Rainforest Information Centre. He regularly facilitates deep ecology workshops across Australia. He has made films and recorded albums about nature and you can always encourage him to get the guitar out around the fire.

Megan, formerly working at a not for profit within the Aboriginal community in Sydney, is presently building our hemp home.
River is 10 and loves books, hanging with his friends, soccer, music and minecraft. He feels lucky to attend a nearby homeschool hub 3 days a week and his other 2 'school days' are here at the village. He loves the cultural exchange with our guests.

We have just moved into our home but there is still building work to be done!
We would like your help with building, gardening, homeschool, housework and cooking. From time to time John needs computer help with his admin.

We love to have volunteers with us and over the last 6 months have hosted people from all over the world. We collaborate with our friend and neighbour Benjamin who is also doing a natural build. You can look up his workaway site and see it is favourited over 250 times with more than 20 five star ratings!

We share the cooking responsibilities like a family would, each taking turns to cook dinner, we love learning new recipes from you :). A typical evening involves sharing stories over dinner, going to a village event together, or playing board games around the table. Of course you may wish to enjoy your own company and that's welcome to.

The ecovillage is an intentional community of about 150 people. There are often 4 or 5 volunteers staying here and they share a kitchen/dining/hangout space. There are frequently lots of interesting community activities going on such as; crafting, group meditation and yoga, dancing in the dark, pot luck dinners. Sometimes we have organised events like gigs, fundraisers, quiz night's.

Terrigal beach is a great nearby haven with a plethora of shops, cafe's and eateries. We are lucky to live in the heart of Strickland State Forrest. Beautiful bushwalks are right at your doorstep. A calm and serene dam is located just behind your accommodation for swimming, meditating and relaxing.

    Arbeit

We have just built and moved into our new hemp home at the eco village and from time to time need help with remaining building projects, gardening, homeschool, housework, cooking and computer help.

Part of the work exchange involves driving Megan for various errands. Please, you need to be 25 or older so our car insurance cost does not increase.
Sometimes there might be several hours between dropping Megan and bringing her home. This might be great for a digital nomad type or anyone who is happy to entertain themselves amongst the surrounding beautiful array of beaches and nature while Megan is at her appointment.

So a working day might be gardening or a combination of that plus building and cooking. Or it could involve a 30- 40 minute drive (using our car), with 2-3 hours free time for exploration and personal work. The returning commute back, with additional hours made up of admin, gardening, building or domestic tasks.

Work hours per day will not exceed 5 hours unless you wish to work extra hours for more full days off which we can accommodate.

Building work to complete includes i) building a balustrade for the balcony out of sapling trees (stripping the bark, sanding the wood til smooth, oiling the wood for all weather protection. ii) building an outdoor sauna, iii) collecting 2nd hand pavers and preparing the earth for water pipes and laying paving at the back entrance, iv) preparing wood for various projects - eg shelving, a bar off the kitchen servery, making a screen of battens from 2nd hand floorboards and v) working with the mudbricks to protect them from weather. We have jobs if you are strong and ones if you are less so :)

Regarding homeschool - if you have a passion that you can share with River we are super happy for him to learn from you. That might be kicking the soccer ball, playing tennis, teaching him video editing skills, a few words of your language or a few chords on the guitar or something entirely new!

We look forward to hearing from you. Please mention something from our profile to let us know you have read it. thanks
