Vaksana aims to be the very first Women's+ retreat center in Guyana. Our intention is to create a space to experience the beauty and adventure that Guyana has to offer, in an environment that centered on the wellbeing, enjoyment, and safety of all women and gender expansive individuals.
At Vaksana, we recognize the need in Guyana for a gender-responsive approach to tourism, wellness and community programming. Our site is designed for guests to rest, replenish and grow in an environment that is free from discrimination.
Our programming focuses on sustainability and community development, and includes a local women’s group, community farm and agricultural education, professionally designed psychological and emotional healing workshops, skill-building, and wellness and cultural events.
With wellness retreat programming unlike anything else currently offered, Vaksana is poised to launch Guyana into the multi—billion dollar wellness tourism industry. It is time for the beautiful and regenerative ‘land of many waters’ to claim its place in this rapidly growing international arena.
Who are we
Vaksana is an offshoot of the place also known as ADVP. ADVP is a Canadian non-profit, founded by Guyanese born, and recently repatriated Menakshi and her two cousins Shoba and Samantha.

Guyana is a unique country in South America. It is the only English speaking country on the continent, and its population is made up of Indian, African, Aboriginal and Chinese heritage, making it a very multicultural country. Guyana has had very few tourists and is relatively unknown in the world. Travellers will have the opportunity to have a big impact with their work and a truly authentic experience. Additionally, Guyana has 80% untouched rainforest as well as one of the largest single drop waterfalls, so there are lots of opportunities for trekking.
Travellers are initially helping with the set up of the farm, construction of the eco lodge and assisting with community out reach program for children and adults.
We would also like to welcome travellers that would like to lead yoga and meditation classes for both locals and fellow travellers.

Accommodations will be of a camping style type during the construction period of the lodge and you will be required to bring your own camping equipment.
The region has a number of local bars, restaurants and shopping areas. Vaksana is surrounded by natural forest and Caopey Lake.
After arriving at the airport volunteers will need to take a taxi ride to Parika. From there they will take a boat ride over to Essequibo coast and then an off-road taxi to the rear of Queenstown Village, where Vaksana is located. We would happily help you arrange transportation to our site from airport, you'll just have to let us know.
As per getting around the village and neighbouring places, one may bike or take a taxi or mini bus.
There will be lots of free time so we will be more than willing to organize trips to the nearby lakes, resorts, markets, and sights.
