Hello! We’re Natalie (a Year 6 teacher) and Damien (a fitter and turner), living just outside Bundaberg, Queensland, with our daughter Holly and our dog Banjo. Our property is 34 acres of mostly untouched bushland, filled with gum trees, kangaroos, and birdlife, with a cleared section where we’re creating a sustainable lifestyle.

We are passionate travellers, having visited over 50 countries together, and we’ve also been Workawayers ourselves—so we know what makes for a great exchange. We’d describe ourselves as hardworking, adaptable, and easygoing, and we love welcoming new people into our home.

Important things to know before applying:
    - We are mostly vegetarian (with occasional fish/meat). If you prefer a meat-heavy diet or dislike veggies, this won’t be the right fit.
    - Our water comes from tanks, so everyone must use short showers and conserve water.
    - No smoking (it affects Damien’s health).
    - Please apply only if you are already in Australia.

    Cultural Exchange
Your stay here offers both peace and adventure. By day you can:
    - Take bush walks among kangaroos and native birds.
    - Read in a hammock or relax on the veranda.
    - Practise yoga or meditation.
    - Enjoy sunsets by the fire pit or poolside in warmer months.
    - Evenings often include shared meals, swapping travel stories, and stargazing.

    Weekends may involve:
    - Trips to the beach or river.
    - Bike rides, bush walks, or exploring local nature spots.
    - Joining us for BBQs or even heading out on a friend’s boat if the opportunity arises.

If you prefer independence, we’ll happily suggest local attractions: the Great Barrier Reef (Lady Musgrave Island), Mon Repos turtle nesting, Fraser Island, whale watching (July–Nov), and the Bundaberg Rum Distillery.

    Learning opportunities:
-Damien is a patient teacher and can show you tractor driving, fencing, and basic building.
    - Natalie is a qualified yoga teacher and happy to share her practice.
    - Experience authentic Aussie bush life, gardening, and sustainability projects.

Simply put, we offer a typical Australian life style.

    Arbeit

We’re looking for helpers who are willing to get stuck in with a range of jobs. Skills are appreciated, but attitude matters most!
    - Gardening & Eco Projects – planting, weeding, mowing, whipper-snipping, mulching, irrigation.
    - DIY & Building Projects – small renovations, repairs, fencing, painting, carpentry, greenhouse building, shed maintenance.
    - Cooking & Household Help – preparing meals, tidying, cleaning, helping to keep daily life running smoothly.
    - Animal Care – looking after our alpaca (Sid), chickens, and dog.
    - Babysitting & Creative Play – helping with Holly on occasion.
    - Language Exchange – Spanish speakers especially welcome (Natalie is a beginner).

The kind of help depends on your skills and interests, but our main needs are:

    Building / Maintenance
    - Our 75-year-old Queenslander and sheds need some TLC. Possible projects:
    - Building a greenhouse or alpaca shelter.
    - Repairing shed roof or painting sheds.
    - Constructing an outdoor play area for Holly (bike path, swings).
    - Setting up veggie gardens and irrigation.
    - Fire pit and outdoor seating projects.

    Gardening & Outdoors
    - Weeding, mowing, whipper-snipping.
    - Planting and mulching (we have around 23 fruit trees already, with more to come).
    - Helping build and maintain raised veggie beds.
    - Clearing invasive weeds from the bush.

    Cooking & Household
    - Preparing healthy meals (vegetarian or vegan recipes welcome!).
    - General tidying and cleaning.
    - Occasional babysitting or playtime with Holly.

We ask for reasonable fitness and willingness to work with your hands—most jobs are physical but flexible. In exchange, you’ll enjoy good food, comfortable accommodation, and the chance to learn new skills.

No public transport nearby; your own car is helpful but not essential. We can pick you up from Bundaberg and drop you off when you leave.

    - We’re happy to include you in trips to town or weekend outings.
    - Nearby beaches include Bargara, Moore Park, Woodgate, and Mon Repos (turtle nesting site).
    - Bundaberg is a gateway to Fraser Island, the Great Barrier Reef, and whale watching.

If you’re enthusiastic, hardworking, and excited about bush life, we’d love to welcome you into our home. Please message us with a little about yourself, your skills, and when you’d like to stay.
