Beschreibung
The Castle stands in Tullamore, the largest and principal town in County Offaly, which lies near the centre of Ireland.
At the Castle we do everything we can to be part of the community's life.
We always have projects going on at Castle, so if you have some time and would like to help out in the conservation and general upkeep work , let us know!
Few castles in Ireland are fully run by volunteers for the community and public at large. It is a great rrsponsibility which we have learned to take in our stride. There is plenty of fun thrown in with hard and disciplined work.
The Castle is a Grade A Historic Building protected under the Granada Convention ...
Our job is to keep it alive but not stuffy. Maybe YOU would like to join us for a while ...
All kinds of skills are needed and sometimes some projects wait for years for the right person to come along, prove themselves and get stuck in ...

The Castle is a community at the heart of the Heartland Community in the middle of Ireland centered on he ancient neolithic and monastic sites. We are all volunteers. Some have served since 1969 and others less. One in every 5 springs from the local community and drives activities. The bulk of volunteers have always come from far and wide and have exchanged specialised skills, and even simple work, for a deep dive into Irish culture, event management and movie making. The roof of the castle was removed in 1968 and set in motion a rising tide of goodwill to put it right and have it, as it is now, recognised, under the Granada convention by 2003, as a Grade A Historic monument of international culture importance. The ownership has remained with the heirs to the Earldom but the ambition is a Community Land Trust of historic proportions. We know it will be a long journey there. Already it has been long journey and many have passed on, but all leave their mark - just as you will if you come here and get stuck in and integrate into the greater community ... you have so much to gain ... we volunteers living here will gain from you too ...

Help with writing the new development plan for the castle and its surrounding area as a public resource. Perfect candidates would be Grant Proposal Writers, or anyone with town planning/architectural skills.
We are also always looking for people to improve their skills and learn new skills in building/construction and DIY helping our onsite engineers and onsite experts in renovation.
In addition, we need long term volunteers for cleaning and upkeep of the extensive spaces that are being managed here, plus people doing gardening and landscape maintenance but ACCOMODATION SPACE FOR VOLUNTEERS IN THIS CATEGORY IS LIMITED.Sprachen

For fire safety and thermal insulation reasons, seperate quarters, less than 50 metres from the the castle, with single and dual rooms and shared living room, bathroom and kitchen facilities. The building was purpose built to accommodate up to 6 volunteers in 4 separate rooms with 2 singles and 2 with bunk beds for 2 sharing. It is rare for there to be 6 volunteers to be present. Usually we only have 4 or less present at one time.
Ample groceries are provided for the volunteers to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner in the communal kitchen. A roster is usually agreed amongst the volunteers to take it in turn to cook and do domestic duties. Periodically {in Summer once a week} we have a special meal for everyone living and working at the castle to celebrateWas noch ...
